Cash bid upgrade - is this a reasonable price?

Cash bid upgrade - is this a reasonable price?

I have latitude econ reward flight for this and would like to bid upgrade to business with cash. A couple weeks ago the business class minimum bid was $1650 up. I didn't think it was worth it at the time (since latitude fare already worth more?) and now it has dropped to $1499 minimum bid. Would it drop even further closer to departure if seats remained unsold? is 1499 bid price reasonable? or does premium econ bid a better deal?

Early arrival - cafes and things to do recommendation pls

I will be coming to HK late August. I was born here but moved to Canada since grade school. This is my first time coming back in 10+ years. I feel like I am not familiar with this city anymore but am excited to be back solo. As I will be arriving at 5am in HK, I won't be able to check into my hotel until the afternoon. Any recommendations on what to do in the morning hours? Are there any cafe that opens early near CWB/Wanchai that will allow me to relax and sit for some time? Thanks everyone.

Need some advice - points or cash

A while back I booked a multicity reward flight as follow:

  1. YVR - HKG (business flex)
  2. HKG to HND (business flex)
  3. NRT to YVR (Econ latitude)

All for 234,400 pts +$210. I understood that this was not the best deal but I needed the full flexibility for cancellations, hence I opted for business flex and econ latitude.

Ideally I would like to fly business on my last leg but the point redemption for business was way too much. On hindsight I should have chosen Econ Standard for the last leg as I do not have status. I was a newbie and clearly did not do enough research on this. Now I thought I could try to cash bid upgrade my last leg to business. Little did I know that the lowest bid starts at $1600+.

What would be my best option in terms of value for getting business class for th elast leg?

  1. Call to change my itinerary and ask to cancel just the last leg and buy business right out for $4200 (20% base fare ends today...)? Not sure if that would trigger a reprice for my 1st and 2nd leg.
  2. Bid upgrade with cash to business -- I have no status. Does that mean my bid will not be prioritize than to those have status where they use eupgrades? given I paid a lot of points for latitude doesn't seem to be a deal if i have to pay over $1600 to bid? And Is my chance low for cash bid (Sep 8 AC4 flight) given it's shoulder/high season?

Would appreciate some advice on this. Thank you.
