I have maybe one or two sculptures that I’ve made specifically for myself, with absolutely no intention of ever parting with them. This is now one of them.
Lately I’ve been feeling nostalgic about retro gaming and wanted to sculpt something that represented that time for me. I liked the idea of taking something instantly recognizable from a video game and treating it like it could actually exist in between a game universe and our nature.
So, I made myself a Koopa Troopa shell. Familiar enough that you know exactly what it is, but organic enough that it feels like something you might actually stumble across.
This one stays with me.

Original vintage Lefton “Blue Boy” porcelain figurine (Model 82-387), Made in Japan, professionally altered into a one of a kind mixed media horror sculpture by Salty Sculpts. Original head removed and replaced with a hand sculpted polymer clay anatomical creature head, then hand painted and finished. No molds or casts. One of one.

The stem and the white on the mushroom cap are glow in the dark. 💪🏼

I mixed some shades of gold polymer and got to work.
