Bought a Meituan gym pass for a day but I’m feeling anxious due to previous rejections from gyms for being a foreigner

It’s been a lesson learnt for me coming to a lower tier city in China, I’ve managed to buy a day pass at a gym but I’m feeling ever so anxious to go and see what happens. In one of the reviews someone left they said they were happy that there were no foreigners lol fml. I can’t believe I’m feeling stressed and anxious over something so small but it’s a big deal in places with little to no foreigners. My experience in China hasn’t been so great but it’s most likely due to my location. When I did research about the place I didn’t find anything about stuff like this just that it will have less foreigners. My mental health isn’t doing so well at the moment due to so many obstacles. The other day I saw another foreigner and got so happy I wanted to make eye contact but he himself looked miserable 😭 I feel him. Anyways wish me luck guys and if I do post a lot on these subs I’m just lonely with no friends on the same boat.

I kind of messed up

I didn’t realise this whilst in the uk and I should have done more research on my location than the contract and it’s hours, salary etc.

Context is I lack experience but I have TEFL, bachelors and a British citizen though I’m not white.

I wasn’t having much luck in getting job offers and the few I did were from agencies that had a lot of negative reviews.

I’ve come to jingzhou hubei and looks like google considers this a tier 3 city but my school is more in the rural part. It’s my first time in China, first time living independently and it’s only been 2 weeks since I’ve been here and I already feel isolated.

My first week was in Wuhan which was fine, there’s more to do there and I saw other foreigners around.

Here I’m the only foreigner, I’m the schools first foreign hire but I’m also lacking experience so I don’t know how this will work .. they don’t have proper books or curriculum and some books for grades 4-6 have still not come. They’ve also told me they want me to go to middle school some days ..

Any advice .. I haven’t signed an apartment yet and don’t know if I should quit but I also feel for the kids as the school recruited people by saying we’re going to have a foreign teacher. I’m not sure if the kids would be happy with me but I’m not confident that I’ll do a good job I need some training and I had thought there were other foreign teachers here as the agency said there were 2 in the middle school but this wasn’t true ..

Also any Wuhan WeChat groups or anything ? I’m in a dire need of friends and people to talk to.

Is 2 checked bags, cabin bag and backpack too much for 1 year in china ?

Moving to china for a year, I feel as though if I could go straight to the airport I wouldn't think as much but the international airport is in a different city to me.

I swear I thought I was packing essentials but somehow became all of this 😬

How are you guys contacting banks in the UK and do I convert my UK SIM to esims?

Hi guys

Hope I chose the right flair

I have a bit of a dilemma going on I'm basically heading to china for 10 months next week but I have a mortgage in the UK. I'm a first time buyer and there's just lots of processes to do before letting. Now I need to inform them and HMRC I think that I'll be receiving rent. I managed to find people who will stay for a year. How am I able to still communicate with my banks to continue this completion and I really want to keep my UK SIM.

Anyone living in china who has a mortgage in the UK ? How do you go about it ?

Thank you guys :)

Did you take a second luggage of just snacks/food from UK?

I'll be moving to china for a few months, someone recommended that I should take 2 checked in bags one for food and one for clothes however, when I bought the ticket I didn't add the extra bag. Are there any snacks that you can't find in china ? For example things like Nutella, Weetabix maybe ? I was thinking to take some chocolates but it'll melt I think. I know some things can be found on taobao but might be pricier..

Heading to china to teach for a year but worried about job security when I'm back

I read a lot of comments saying if you have a job stay in it and don't quit. Many of us have been working at a job that has been mentally draining us. Someone said instead of job hopping we are job hugging lol. But yeah my main worry is .. do you guys think I made a wrong decision ?

When I was applying to jobs in the UK I mainly received rejection emails. I have a TEFL and BSc and started applying to jobs in Asia and to my surprise had interviews and now I've accepted an offer and I'm heading to china soon.

But I know UK is my home it's my base and I have family here, I speak the language, I know I most likely will come back here but I'm hearing people say they've been applying to jobs for months and months and still no success. This worries me .. I don't know if I should have just held on to my job but then there's also no guarantee the job market will get better if anything because of AI it will get worse.

What do you think ?

Not sure if I posted something similar here before sorry if I did I have dory memory.

My sister told me once our mum dies she will cut me off.

I just wanted to share a recent experience I've had with my sister. I'm 29F British South Asian,in the UK. Normally in my culture people get married, have kids by my age. A life without marriage is alien to my community. Anyways I'm going china by end of august to teach for a year. My mum is in her 60s and is poorly and my brother lives with us who is 40. My sister is the traditional type, she's 39, married to a guy from Bangladesh and has 3 kids. Lives at her own place. I knew she wasn't going to be supportive of the idea of me going to china so I decided to tell her last minute. Long story short it ended with her telling me that I am selfish, that all of my mum's struggles in life has been because of me that I make her life harder. That because of me mum hasn't moved to hers and that she would happily take care of mum. She said the only reason she talks to me is because my mum isn't dead yet and that if my mum dies she will cut me off. I told her why wait to cut me off do it now and she said she can't because I'm still with mum and mum always brings up my name for things. This is just the tip of the ice berg of the things she has said through out the years of my life. Mind you her husband is a perv and instead of being a protective sister she used to tell me to cover up (I was already covered my house hold will not let you wear things like shorts in the house) I would already be fully covered and even then I would get attacked. So yeah moving forward if anything I'd appreciate it if she did actually cut me off now, I don't mind the distance but I will be seen as the bad selfish negative person who's leaving her poorly mum to go china. I have had moments where I have argued with my mum and haven't been the nicest however if I were to be honest if someone is constantly spoken to in this way do you really expect them to be nice back? I genuinely don't believe I was raised in a house with love, because I am different to them, I don't agree with their way of life hence I'm seen as this bad person.

[30M] takes forever to reply but when I [29F] remove him he sends a friend request again

There's a guy I connected with from Reddit and we added each other on WeChat as I will be moving to china soon and he is from UK same as me but currently lives there. At first he was great, really helpful, replied back consistently, helped me connect to group chats to help me find a job. Then eventually a few weeks later he started taking a few days to reply to then eventually it became a week and he didn't answer. I removed him off WeChat because when this happens it triggers me and makes me feel like I'm bothering someone. A few days later he requested to add me and I accepted it and he asks what happened, I told him what and he said oh he was on holiday hence late replies (holiday as in still in china). He then told me he will be coming back to the UK for a bit and flying back to china same day as me. I then suggested maybe he can go from the same airport as me but he said oh he can't as flights with two luggages are cheaper from another airport. I then asked him what time is his flight to the UK and again he went radio silent. It became more than a day and at this point I thought to myself even at the airport he didn't have a minute to reply back ? So I removed him again. He then re requested the friend request but I ignored it. I don't get why he bothers to add me again when his replies aren't great.

Shall I get the rabies vaccine before going?

I went to the doctor's today and got my tetanus jab again, the nurse advised in getting the rabies vaccine though this will be private. I'll be in china for a year.
