How do you intentionally reset during summer to be a healthier, better teacher come Fall?

This year left me feeling more depleted than usual.

I’m realizing I don’t just need a summer break, but some kind of reset so I can have a healthier next school year (for myself and my students).

How do you use the summer intentionally , especially regarding:

Mental health and avoiding burnout

Reconnecting with values and why you teach

Reflecting on lessons learned from the past year

Professional growth without turning summer into unpaid work (I want to re-write my curriculum)

Physical health, hobbies, relationships, and life outside teaching

Setting boundaries for the upcoming school year

Herbie booked a lesson with me for next week. I’d like to crowd source some lesson ideas that I can run through with him. I’m thinking he’s ready for Dorian-Mixolydian-Ionian scales over ii-V-Is — thoughts?

In general, what advice might you want to give this gentleman to spruce up his playing a bit to make it more interesting?
