Is there a way to do this...?
Is there an automatic way via some extension or such, where I can convert my entire History entries into Bookmarks?
Or is there no choice but for me to do it one by one manually?
Thanks.
Which fixed release distribution has the best upgrade story?
Yes I know rolling release distros exist but I'd prefer using a fixed release one. But I don't want to fresh reinstall after every new version release. Yet I seeing horror stories of upgrades everywhere.
So which distribution has the least issues with upgrades? Are there such distros at all or upgrades are always risky and fragile and a fact of life in the Linux world?
Does four in Xfce4 stand for the GTK toolkit version it is built on?
Just as the title says... wondering about the numeral in Xfce4...
So does this mean we'll get Xfce5 once GTK5 is released?
I hope GTK4 -> GTK5 is not as hard as X11 -> Wayland...
What exactly is installed?
During installation of Debian 13, I deselect GNOME or any other desktop task but leave selected the "Debian Desktop Environment" task, then what exactly is installed?
Just a bare xserver? Or something like i3?
Debian 13 won't be loaded by UEFI after Windows 11 updated to new secure boot certs... why is this?
Okay so I was running Debian 13 with secure boot enabled for past several months with no issues. Yesterday I installed Windows 11 on another SSD and obviously Windows updated to the new 2023 secure boot certificates during its routine updates. Windows boot without issues.
But now the UEFI firmware refuses to load Debian 13's grub bootloader, saying "Secure boot violation". No other details given.
Why is this? As far as I can see, grub was signed with the old 2011 MS certificates. Does that mean that installing the newer 2023 certificates invalidates the 2011 ones?
So how can I "resign" grub with the new 2023 certificates so that my UEFI can boot Debian? Of course initially I can turn off secure boot to get into Debian but I don't want to have to toggle secure boot off & on repeatedly to switch between Debian and Windows 11. I want Debian's grub or shim or whatever to be signed by the new MS certs so I can keep secure boot enabled for both OSes.
How to do that? Any help or explanation appreciated!
Change Firefox new tab page background automatically?
I want the Firefox new tab page background to change from one picture to another (both are part of the default set supplied by Mozilla) when I switch my system from light to dark mode, and back again.
Is this possible?
I'm using Firefox on Debian 13 with the Xfce desktop. Light theme is Adwaita, dark is Adwaita dark.
Which download manager do you all use on Linux?
Yes I know the browser is adequate but for multi-GB files I prefer a separate download manager as its less prone to breaking off mid-download & refusing to resume.
So which download manager is the recommended one on Linux, if there's such a thing?
How can I improve the rendering?
The image is from IMDB. Font used is site's choice of Roboto and browser is Firefox 140 ESR on Linux (Debian 13).
From a comfortable reading distance from my screen (1920x1080, 27inch screen), Hepburn reads as Hepbum.
What can I do to improve the rendering without forcing another font? Its usual practice to display websites in the fonts of their choice...
Checkmate that's also a triple-fork
Just in the nick of time too... lol
Some flatpak apps have missing close buttons... how to fix it?
Flatpak apps from flathub on Debian 13 as the screenshot shows.
Distroshelf, Flatseal, Mission Center and Warehouse are missing window close buttons as the pic shows. Rest of the apps have them.
My Xfce theme is stock Adwaita, while Xfwm theme is default-hdpi, and icons are elementary-xfce, but I doubt these matter to flatpak apps anyway.
So is there anything I can do, or install, that can bring back the close buttons?
A simple question...
Am I correct that the official stable kernel will never change from 6.12 for the duration of trixie's support lifetime? Though the minor patch version will creep up as fixes are backported, the main version will always remain at 6.12?
Firefox 140 ESR (Debian 13) - Emojis are not rendered - help?
I checked about:config font.name-list.emoji and its set to default values "Noto Color Emoji, Twemoji Mozilla".
I also have the actual font Noto Color Emoji installed.
Yet no emojis are rendered, just empty white placeholder boxes.
Firefox 140 ESR, Debian 13's package... everything default except for uBlock Origin being installed. I also checked that emojis are not displayed even in safe mode with extensions off.
Yes, I know the latest trixie-security kernel update (6.12.85 or something) has the fixed kernel, but for reasons I prefer running the latest backports kernel and that is currently 6.19.11, so I'm wondering if the bug is fixed on this version or I'm vulnerable?
