Caregivers needed in coastal Carlsbad

My brother and I are seeking 2 caregivers who are compassionate, DEPENDABLE, professional, and fun! My name is Sarah and my brother is Scott and we both have a disability called Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). We are full-time wheelchair users who lead active, fulfilling lives but need physical assistance to do so.

About Us
I am 39 years old, an artist and graphic designer who enjoys all kinds of creative projects. I like music of all kinds, movies of all kinds except for horror, and I am really into progressive politics. Scott, 35, is an engineer who enjoys technology, and is great at problem-solving. He likes to read, watch mostly sci-fi/fantasy movies, and take his dog Stella all around Carlsbad. He is also a major foodie. We live together with our mom, Lisa, who is our primary caregiver and has been for 39 years, so she is in desperate need of a break.

The household also includes three friendly dogs, so applicants should be comfortable around dogs and willing to help with their daily care, such as feeding, sometimes brushing or bathing, letting them out, and providing general attention as needed.

Schedule
We are currently hiring for two daytime caregiver positions:
Sunday–Wednesday: 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Thursday–Saturday: 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Please indicate which schedule you are interested in when applying.

PAY DEPENDS ON EXPERIENCE, ~$30

Assist with activities of daily living, including personal care, dressing, grooming, and hygiene.
Safely perform transfers using electric ceiling hoist (training provided).
Assist with meal preparation and feeding.
Help with range-of-motion exercises and positioning for comfort.
Perform light housekeeping, including laundry, tidying living spaces, and meal cleanup.
Assist with the care of three household dogs.
Drive us to appointments, errands, social outings, and recreational activities using our wheelchair-accessible van.
Monitor for changes in health or comfort and communicate concerns promptly.
Maintain a safe, respectful, and supportive environment that promotes independence and dignity.

Qualifications
Previous caregiving, CNA, home health, or personal care experience is preferred but not required.
Current enrollment with In Home Support Services (IHSS) or be willing to enroll if offered employment.
Compassionate, patient, dependable, and attentive to detail.
Comfortable learning specialized care techniques.
Comfortable driving a wheelchair-accessible van.
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Current influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations are required.
Able to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
Ability to pass a general background check.

What We’re Looking For
This is more than a caregiving position—it’s an opportunity to become part of a supportive team and help two accomplished adults continue pursuing their careers, hobbies, friendships, and independence. We’re looking for someone who is reliable, adaptable, has a good sense of humor, and enjoys building meaningful, long-term working relationships.
Training will be provided for all care routines, equipment, transfers, and use of the accessible van. Experience with spinal muscular atrophy is not required—we’re happy to train the right person.

Ollie has taken up smoking

No, but how funny is it that she holds her bone at the end, rather than the middle?

Meet Ollie!!

This is Ollie, my first Yorkie! She is so sweet and very curious. I have had other dogs before but never one so small and never a purebred. I am having trouble getting her to go potty outside, and everything I have read says Yorkies are notoriously hard to potty train. I would appreciate any tips or tricks you might have for this as well as recommendations for good toys and toys for my baby. Thanks!
