Save our speech and debate 0 period in Carlsbad, CA. Sign this petition!
Carlsbad High School is cutting the speech and debate 0 period—and it could force students to choose between AP classes and the activities that define their college apps and futures.
Here's the real impact: students like those on the debate team have built schedules that let them take intensive courses (like BC Calculus), compete at a serious level, and still have room for internships. Lose zero period, and you're looking at impossible choices. The research backs this up too—students in extracurriculars have better attendance, lower dropout rates, and stronger academics.
I started a petition asking the administration to find another solution. We get that budgets are tight and logistics are messy, but cutting this period isn't the answer. There are other ways to make it work if we all sit down and talk.
Has anyone else watched a school program you cared about disappear and felt like no one was actually listening? If you think flexibility in student schedules matters, or if you've seen how these programs change lives, consider signing and sharing this. The administration needs to hear that this decision affects real students with real goals.

Dermatologist recommendations
Hello! Can anyone recommend a good dermatologist in North County? Tia!
Leucadia Pizza
I'm mainly interested in people's thoughts as to how in the heck anyone thinks that this place is good in any manner. I truly think that it is just disgusting pizza, but, yet, they seem to be doing well. Am I missing something or just a snob when it comes to pizza? Lol
I hate how there are so many flights from Carlsbad’s airport now
People haven’t talked about this, but AA recently increased their CLD-PHX route to 4 flights per day. This is on top of the four daily UA flights (2x CLD-SFO and 2x CLD-DEN). There are 8 flights per day out of this tiny airport, and it’s so damn noisy. I don’t want to be a NIMBY, but CLD literally never had this much air traffic before. And it’s frustrating anyone who complains about this is silenced
Bressi Ranch housing project moves forward
The Carlsbad City Council voted Tuesday to continue processing a proposed 111-townhome development in Bressi Ranch near McClellan-Palomar Airport.
Residents raised concerns about traffic, parking, density and airport overflight impacts, while supporters argued the project would add lower-cost ownership housing and be a better use than another industrial building.
The city emphasized the vote was only to continue studying the proposal, not to approve construction.
Do you think cities should convert industrial-zoned land into housing, especially near airports? Why or why not
Miss Mochi needs a home
Mochi was dumped by her previous family unspayed, with a UTI and injury and health issues. They contacted us two days before moving away with their other dog and told us the only other person interested was a breeder. We couldn’t leave her to be left and used like that so we picked her up, took care of her spay, UTI and nares surgery so for the first time in four years she can breathe normally. Mochi needs a home with no other dogs or children, she is doing good on leash and is learning the ‘let’s go!’ Cue. She is completely housetrained and sleeps in her crate at night. She is non destructive with no separation anxiety and she knows sit, down and is working on stay and wait. She needs to meet strangers in an outside, neutral space. She’s currently waiting on intake to a local rescue and will be available for adoption soon.
Tourist Reccos (shopping, coffee, dining)
Hi! I will be in Carlsbad for a conference in a few weeks and will have some time to do my own thing. Coming from Canada so looking for recommendations on things to do, good shopping areas (I love a good second hand or thirft store too), coffee, restaurants, etc!
The only thing on my list right now is to go to Target lol.
I won't have a car so will be relying on ubers for the most part.
Any insight is apprecaited!
Video footage of the meeting for a 70-foot-tall monstrosity in Carlsbad Village. What do you think?
If you live in Carlsbad, especially anywhere near the Village, you need to know about this.
Rincon Homes, one of the main developers responsible for the UBBUI (Ugly Big Box Unit Infestation), is proposing a 70-foot, 5-story mixed-use building at 840 Carlsbad Village Drive — the old Union Bank corner at Jefferson Street. The Planning Commission just voted 6 to 1 to recommend approval. One commissioner, Lafferty, voted no. The rest waved it through.
The height limit in the Village is 45 feet; a 70-foot-tall building will set a new precedent. The parking situation is amping up to be a real nightmare. They're demolishing a building designed by Tucker Sadler without proper historic review. The room was practically empty during public testimony, so no one was really there to speak out against this.
City Council hasn't voted yet. That means there is still time to do something about it.
Show up to the City Council meeting. Submit a public comment online. Call your council member. This is exactly the kind of project that passes because people assume someone else is paying attention.
We have already had so many other recent out-of-scale projects approved that are going to change the character of the Village forever.
The Village is worth fighting for. Don't let this one go quietly.
Looking for information on this guy
This gentleman is running for mayor in our city. He says hes from Carlsbad and has a history of “looking after” his mentally ill brother. Is he an asshole? Good guy? Any/all info helps.
Spectrum 😡
Our Internet and TV services have been in a outage this morning for 6 hours. If you call, their IVR tells you that you are in an outage and hangs up on you. Meanwhile, every two hours their text messages tell you FALSELY that the outage has been cleared. Simple notification system run by idiots and liars.
Their stock has been going straight down for 4 years running. Easy to see why. We will be dumping them as well.
AT&T Nonstop Sales
In the past two weeks I have been approached 3 times (once at home, 2 times in two different third spaces here in Carlsbad) by these AT&T salespeople. They are relentless, annoying, and just appear to be everywhere. The third time today, I immediately recognized who it was, asked if it was them and then walked in a circle to get rid of them. I’m tired of people bugging and trying to sell to me when I’m just trying to relax outside of work. Like they don’t have enough money already. This is mostly just a rant but has anyone had the same experience?
Schnauzer lost please help find Luna
Help Us Find Luna ASAP
Luna was lost while staying with dog sitters booked through Rover. The sitters, Sarah Dean and Daniel Oswiler, claim that Luna escaped, but they never officially reported her missing, did not follow the instructions provided, and have refused to cooperate or speak with police.
At this point, Luna’s family does not know what truly happened to her, and they are desperate for answers. Please help us spread the word and keep an eye out for Luna.

Trying to gauge interest in a casual swimming meetup
Anyone interested in a casual weekend lap swim meetups?
I’ve been thinking about starting a low-pressure group for Saturday and/or Sunday mornings. Nothing competitive or structured — just a relaxed group getting together for an hour or two to swim, get some exercise in, and make the pool a little more social.
All experience levels welcome — whether you’re just starting out, getting back into swimming, or training regularly. The idea is simply to keep it approachable and a way to meet some new friends along the way. Could be as simple as reserving a couple lanes, swimming at our own pace, and hanging out a bit before or after, maybe grabbing a bite afterward.
I’m 33 and got into swimming within the last year. I’ve really enjoyed it and realized there are probably others in the same boat who want to swim more consistently but don’t necessarily want, or can’t commit to, the schedule/intensity of a masters program or formal club.
Likely looking at pools like William Wagner Aquatic Center or Brooks Street Pool in Oceanside, Alga Norte in Carlsbad, or the Ecke YMCA in Encinitas — all solid facilities with day-use access ($5–$10 entry, no membership required). Open to other nearby suggestions depending on where people are coming from.
If that sounds like something you’d be into, feel free to comment or message me directly.

Has Carlsbad gotten noticeably harder for younger professionals lately or is it just me?
Not even talking about buying a house necessarily. More just the overall balance of rent, career growth, social life, commute, etc.
I still think it's one of the best places in SoCal quality of life, but sometimes it feels like a lot of people in their 20's/30's are quietly trying to figure out how long they can realistically make it work here long term
How did you find your rental in Carlsbad Village?
My wife and I are trying to move to Carlsbad Village and keep running into the same problem: we find a place we like, tour, apply quickly, and then hear someone else already got it.
We’ve been checking Zillow plus property management sites like Torrey Pines and Chamberlain daily. Is there something else we should be doing? Are there other sites, local Facebook groups, leasing companies, or strategies that work better in this area?
Looking for:
2 bedroom
Carlsbad Village
Budget: $3,000 - $3,800/month (based on features + square footage)
Any advice would be appreciated.
Restaurant recommendations
My family is traveling to Carlsbad soon and I would like to treat them to a nice, family friendly Mexican restaurant. There will be 11 of us, including 3 kids. We will be staying near Tamarak Beach. Do you have any recommendations?
Edit: Thank you all for these amazing recommendations! We might have to visit a few of these locations while we are out there!

Potential move
Hi all!
My family is exploring moving to Carlsbad area from SF next summer. Also open to areas south as well. We are planning to visit this summer to get an overall feel of fit and wanted some input on how to spend our days, what areas to visit and anything/where we should check out. My kids are 3/5 and my daughter will be going into first grade when we move so school zones are also important.
