Median home value and household income by Massachusetts county

ACS 2024 1-year data from the US Census Bureau were used.

I know counties have little functional meeting in New England, but there are just way too many municipalities to tabulate these data by town/city/whatever. I included Rockingham and Strafford Counties in NH because they are part of the Greater Boston metro area.

For comparison, the nationwide values are $360,600 for median value of owner-occupied housing units and $81,604 for median household income.

LinkedIn commentary on the first World Cup match from the COO of the MBTA

Link to the post by Ryan Coholan, Chief Operating Officer at the MBTA.

>Well…. It happened!!! The MBTA delivered 20,000 passengers safely and on-time to the frost FIFA World Cup 2026™ - Canada, Mexico and the United States match game at Boston Stadium! On top of that, we operated our transit system all through the wee hours, basically 24 hour service between Saturday and Sunday for the first time ever!
Our system is old- nothing will change that. Our largest stadium in the region is a 40 minute train ride away, and our largest downtown station is simply not built to accommodate this volume of passengers…… all that is fact.
The fact that I want to make know though, is the fact that the men and women of the MBTA and Keolis Commuter Services delivered! So proud of the collaboration between eveyone, because after all, we are #oneTeam.

GP40MC No. 1130 in original MBTA "Easter egg" paint scheme (plus Horizon cars back on the Downeaster)

I hadn't gotten a close look at 1130 in a while, so I did just that after it pushed me into work the other morning.

Do you remember what you were doing when you heard about Brian’s passing?

I was in the bathroom at work, during my lunch break, listening to The Beach Boys (1985) and browsing Facebook on my phone. I remember seeing the post from Brian’s official page, about twenty minutes after it was posted.

Then I reached out to a high school friend whom I hadn’t spoken to in years because he’s the one who introduced me to the boys, and I wanted to see if he’d heard the news.

(Side note: I really wish I could remember these many details about the day Ozzy died because he and Brian were the two most important musicians of my formative years, and it’s insane that they died within weeks of each other.

Is it time to complain about the too-hot-and-sticky side to the humid subtropical climate of the Boston area yet?

Yes, a large swath of southern New England is classified as Köppen climate type Cfa:

  • C = Mid-latitude climate with mild winters (coldest month between 0°C and 18°C)
  • f = Fully humid (rain year-round, no distinct dry season)
  • a = Hot summer (hottest month above 22°C)

Does anyone know the name of the bar in North Station off to the right in the waiting area?

It's not listed on Google Maps or anything from what I can tell. I'm never sure what to call it. And it has no right having as nice a beer selection as it does.

Inspired by a recent post referring to the "NJ metro area", this map shows to which Core Based Statistical Areas (all Metropolitan Statistical Areas [MSAs] in this case) the counties of New Jersey belong, as defined by the US Office of Management and Budget (OMB). We can argue about whether or not we like belonging to one metro area or argue over the criteria used to determine the assignments... but the definitions themselves aren't really up for debate.

Core Based Statistical Areas (CBSAs) are determined by the OMB using census data to identify a central, densely populated urban core and surrounding counties with high economic/social integration (based on commuting patterns). A CBSA must have at least one urban area of at least 10,000 population. CBSAs are defined at the county level.
