Expectations for a toddler on a flight

This is more of a rant than anything. As well as a gut check just making sure I’m not totally wrong on this one.

Yesterday we took a 4 hour flight with our 3 year old in the middle of the afternoon. Around the 3 hour mark, he started singing a bit loudly. This continued for about 10 minutes despite our attempts to ask him to be quiet and redirect him. Then, the woman sitting in front of him turns around and says can we please do something about him because he woke her up. She says she has 3 kids under 3 herself so she can relate but she thinks he was being ridiculous. She then asks can we take him for a walk or something, to which I replied no because the seatbelt sign was on for turbulence… she also accused him of kicking her seat the entire flight which is literally impossible because he was sleeping for the first 2 hours.

Like I’m sorry, you cannot reasonably tell me you have never experienced a time when your toddler didn’t listen to you. Not to mention, when you have limited options to redirect them when they’ve been cooped up on an airplane for over 3 hours. Her tone was also super rude and judgmental - like her kids are never misbehaved and are perfect angels. Someone please tell me if I’m in the wrong here.

Editing to add we also had our 6 month old baby with use who actually did proceed to scream for the next hour of the flight as we were descending/landing.

Help! 6 month old started waking every hour and we leave for vacation tomorrow

We have not sleep trained yet - that was supposed to be an after vacation task to tackle since he was waking only 1-2 times per night. My 6 month old is rocked/fed to sleep. Last night he woke up every hour to hour and a half from bedtime until 3:30am, then slept until 7am. Tonight is shaping up to be similar. My first son did this around 6 months as well and sleep training was the only solution. Clearly we don’t have time for that as we leave tomorrow for a trip where we are going backwards by 3 hours in time zones. Any strategies we can use in the meantime to make this trip less painful?

Editing to add his schedule: 2/2.5/2.5/2.5-3. Usually wakes up around 7am, bedtime between 7:30-8pm. I will say lately it’s been harder to get the third nap in but it would also be hard for him to even make it to 7pm without it.

Sleep training without dropping night feeds

Is anyone familiar with any methods that still allow for night feeds? Specifically night feeds on demand.

We did taking Cara babies with my first son and it worked great but he had already dropped his night feeds naturally. TCB recommends either weaning night feeds or doing scheduled dream feeds.

We tried gradually weaning night feeds (typically 1-2/night) but when we got to 2 oz a feed he started waking up more frequently and at 1 oz he just lost it and would not settle. My son had a tongue tie release and has always been a bit of a snacker throughout the day so it’s been difficult to shift those night time feeds to larger daytime bottles. TCB recommends initiating a dream feed while baby is still asleep if your baby still needs to eat overnight (I.e. set yourself an alarm for 2am and go in to feed them). The thought behind this is not “rewarding” baby with a feed when they wake up crying. Logistically this seems not ideal and I think would be tough to manage if baby woke up before the scheduled feed and needed to be resettled.

Baby is currently 6 months and on 3 naps with wake windows typically 2/2.5/2.5/3.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

Veer Comfort Seat [CA]

Veer wagon owners, I need your thoughts on the comfort seat! At what point did you feel your baby no longer needed it to be stable in the wagon? Was it even necessary for babies under 1? Considering whether this is an accessory I should pick up or not. My older son was fine sitting in a step 2 wagon with just the lap strap at the age of 1 so I don’t want to waste my money if it’s not really necessary.

Toddler regression

Hi everyone! When my toddler was a baby we sleep trained him with TCB at 7 months. He’s been a fantastic sleeper since, until his baby brother arrived in February. Our current issue is at least 2-3 overnight wakes asking for various things (adjust his blanket, wipe his eyes from crying). We’ve been responding right away, partially because we don’t want him to wake the baby. At first it was maybe once in a while, now it’s pretty much every night which is exhausting when our baby is still also up 1-2 times per night. What can we do to get him back on track? For reference he will be 3 in August.

4 month sleep regression or something we’re doing?

My son is almost 5 months. We got to the point where he was occasionally sleeping through the night, waking up at most once between 2am and 4am. This was with a bedtime of 8:30/9:00. Then he started having false starts, waking up 45 mins-1 hour after bedtime and having a full feed. Based on my reading, this can be an indication to push back bedtime so that’s what we did. We’ve changed bedtime to 7:30/8:00 and after a few days the false starts went away. However, the last few nights he’s been waking twice (midnight ish and 3/4am). Is this a result of the earlier bedtime? Or just part of the 4 month sleep regression? Is there anything we can do to improve this? We do plan to sleep train soon.

Additional context, we also just weaned from pumped breast milk to formula. He has always been a slow feeder due to tongue tie which was resolved but is still working on gaining strength and endurance. Is he possibly waking because he needs a greater volume of formula that he’s not getting during the day because he isn’t an efficient eater?

Pacifier Recommendations [CA]

Wondering if anyone with a baby who had a tongue tie that was released and possibly also a high palate has any suggestions for pacifiers their baby enjoyed? My guy is 4 months and seems like he would enjoy a pacifier (currently likes bottle feeding to sleep but sometimes doesn’t actually drink much) but haven’t found one he will actually take. We use lansinoh bottles and have tried bibbs, dr. browns, and avent (both super smoothie and ultra air).

I currently have a 2.5 yr old and a 3 month old. Debating between getting the veer wagon (given the current sale) with car seat attachment and toddler seat or investing in a rumble seat for my Vista. I thinks it’s a little early for the veer but also don’t want to waste money on the rumble seat to only get a few months use out of it if my toddler is no longer interested in the stroller - he’s been hot and cold on it for the last year. We have a garage so storage is not an issue. We also have a minu travel stroller and would eventually sell the vista to help recoup some of the cost.

What would you all do? Any tips from your experience and what was/was not worth it?
