Transmission...To flush or not to flush. That is the question...

My maintenance shop wants to FLUSH my transmission. I told them under NO circumstances are they to FLUSH the system. I would be fine with a simple fluid replacement, i.e., drain existing fluid and replace it with new.

  • 2011 Toyota Venza
  • 3.5 L 2GR-FE V-6 engine
  • 96,700 miles

I have read and heard that if you've never had transmission maintenance done and it becomes "high mileage", it is STRONGLY advised to NOT flush the transmission; just perform a fluid replacement.

What say you, gurus of the transmission?

Thanks for any advice!!

*** UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE ***

After speaking with my best bro on this topic, the decision has been made..."If it ain't broke, don't fix it!".

Like others here, he's had vehicles that ran for 200- and 300,000+ miles without ever having touched the transmission. And I don't drive my Venza anywhere NEAR as hard as he's driven some of his trucks, i.e., towing stuff up and down hills.

I also own a 1997 Corolla DX with 201,000+ miles. I don't recall EVER doing anything to the transmission. And it's running like a champ!!!

Thanks for all the input and advice!! BLESSINGS!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Friend has interview with Delta Airlines...asking about a suit.

Seriously...asking for a friend.

I'm retired from "the other" legacy carrier and he's asking me what to wear for his Delta interview in September.

I wore a dark charcoal gray suit for my Legacy interview some years ago, but is Delta anal about that?

I started to suggest he get a navy blue double-breasted suit, but thought I'd ask the experts here.

So what say you, oh flyers of the red widget??

Thanks in advance!! 👍🏻👍🏻

Music Minus One

Some years ago when I was playing alto and tenor sax on a regular basis, my brother got me the Hal Leonard series Music Minus One.

It included a CD with all the songs and music. The songs were saxophone quartets and included the songs with all 4 parts and the songs with only 3 parts, excluding the sax part you wanted to play.

I've looked online and can't seem to find anything like that for tenor trombone.

Does anyone know if anything like that exists or recommend something similar??

TIA!

New to Tenor Trombone

Title says it.

I've studied music since I was 9 years old. Began with classical piano, voice since 9th grade, alto/tenor sax, drum kit, and have now embarked on my first brass instrument...Tenor Trombone. A VERY nice Bach Stradivarius.

Simple question...what are 2 or 3 online sources for sheet music of all genres??

I'm currently looking for the sheet music to "Invocation of Albrecht" (tenor trombone) and I'm having trouble locating it anywhere.

Thanks for any and all suggestions!! Play on!!

Running behind, but I watched "Lincoln" yesterday...

Man...what a PHENOMENAL, AMAZING job by the ENTIRE cast & crew, but Daniel Day-Lewis and Sally Field just took it over the top!! [standing ovation!!] A well-deserved Oscar for Mr. Day-Lewis and there should have been several more; Sally Field among them! The casting was SUPERB!!!

I followed it up with Jared Frederick's review on Reel History...WELL worth doing that!! Here's the link:

Reel History Review

I'm not sure exactly why, but I found myself getting pretty emotional throughout portions of the movie. I'm not sure if it was because of the sheer impact of the subject matter or if the portrayal were so true and realistic, it was overwhelming to think "THIS IS HISTORY...TRUE AMERICAN HISTORY right here on my screen!!"

The same thing happened as I was watching HBO's John Adams when George Washington was taking his oath of office. I guess it was the pure historical aspect of the creation of this great nation.

Anyway...for anyone who has not seen Lincoln, do yourself a favor and make a weekend plan. I do recommend following it up with Reel History.

God BLESS the United States of America!!

The Best Kept Scene in the Series...

I honestly don't know how they made it through this scene. I mean the outtakes are HILARIOUS and how they got through all those takes to complete the shot is beyond me.

Pilot Missing PPL Endorsements?

Asking for a friend. Seriously. I'm friggin' retired! 😝😝😝

Backstory...had a student at our flight school some 23 years ago circa 2003. I was not his primary instructor, but I did fly with him a couple of times while he was working on his PPL. I was hired away to my Regional soon after he finished that, I think. I really had no desire to maintain contact with him (or any student from back then) so I didn't speak to him for over 15 years.

Fast forward REALLY fast to 2020 and he gets back in touch with me wanting my advice on getting back into flying and getting hired at a Regional. He had left flying/aviation after getting his CFI Certs for some reasons only known to him. By this time I was well-entrenched in my career at my major carrier.

I mentor and guide him and he gets hired at a Regional several years ago. He is now a Captain at that Regional; obviously has his ATP Certificate.

Current day...I get a text message from him today stating he doesn't have any endorsements for any of his Private Pilot tests. When I asked exactly what he's missing, he told me endorsements for the written, review of missed items on written, and the practical test.

He asked me if the instructor who was supposed to endorse him (who is like my little brother) will retroactively sign his Logten Pro logbook via a link. I can tell you my brother really doesn't want to get involved with this guy.

I'm hesitant, as I'm sure the FAA has a procedure for this beyond "pencil whipping" an endorsement in a logbook 20+ years after the fact. He obviously had an 8710 on file when he took the Practical Test, so I honestly don't know what should be done if anything.

What does the Borg Collective suggest?? Thanks for any guidance!!
