Permanent job for less money or contract for more money?
I'm a senior software dev (6 YoE)
I just got an offer for a 20-month contract at $156k. My current job pays $100k but is a permanent role. My current job was arguably my dream job in an industry I love, but it was bought by a PE firm 2 years ago and the culture has gone to shit. Layoffs left and right, execs dismissive of criticism, projects and R&D blocked at every turn, 3k raise over 2 years, no real long term potential for career development unless the company eventually changes hands. My manager keeps telling me I should get a promotion and more money but it's not up to her.
The contract can be renewed after 20 months based on performance. The new job involves a slightly different tech stack which I feel like translates better for potential future jobs.
I'm tempted to take the contract gig because of the money. Good idea? Bad idea?
Edit: Both jobs are in QC
