Anyone paying a nanny through their limited company?

Does it count if she also cleans the home office?

Trying to reduce the post tax expense of €42k a year for a domestic employee. I can’t work if I don’t have childcare but I’m also earning very little if I need to pay a minder for each day that I work.

I’ve been through every creche, au pair and childminder scenario and it doesn’t work for our rural location or commute.

Can I pay my nanny through my limited company?

I am unable to work if I can’t find childcare. The nanny only works when I am also at work - on very specific days. Would an accountant be able to justify this as a company expense?

It’s a fairly large outgoing - €42k a year. But being a stay at home mother would cost me more.

Thanks

Our Mortgage Timeline So Far (New Build)

It’s Sunday and we are anxious waiting for a loan offer from EBS. But so far the process has been okay (if stressful at times).

December 2025 - New development announced in an area that hasn’t had new builds for more than 20 years. It’s small with only 40 units up a rural hill surrounded by older houses they can’t knock down, and in an area we have always liked, so we are overly attached.

9 January 2026 - Phase one launched. All 3 beds under €500k so eligible for HTB.

12 January 2026 - We talk to two brokers and pick one. We have 3 more months of work to do in order to prove repayment capacity with our savings amount + rent. Also need to pay down credit cards so money is tight, only spending on bare essentials. I start gathering essential documents like salary certs and get quote from solicitor

01/03/26 - Broker seems to drag their feet responding to us when we say we are ready to apply.

02/03/26 Solicitor is hired.

11/03/26 - €10k booking deposit sent to developer with old AIP (not underwritten), receipt sent to solicitor

28/03/26 - Still non satisfactory communication with broker so we apply ourselves to EBS and spend the next week sending over nearly 40 documents and answering queries everyday, usually replying within minutes on both sides. Easter holiday and advisor holiday delays things a bit but we also needed the time to gather updated salary certs.

11/04/2026 - EBS submits application

15/04/2026 - Contracts received

16/04/26 - EBS issues underwritten AIP, we immediately request to go for loan offer, valuation booked at 16:30

17/04/26 - Valuation job accepted by auctioneer, direct debit mandate and interest rate forms received

30/04/26 - Valuation still not back, start to chase. Contract deadline passed, asked solicitor to request extension. Short extension granted to following week.

01/05/26 - EBS requests proof of stamp duty/legal fees/remainder of deposit in form of saving statement. Provided same day.

04/05/26 - Ask solicitor to seek second extension

06/05/26 - Valuation done after requesting that EBS chase auctioneer.

08/05/26 - Loan offer application sent to underwriting

The house is supposedly going to be finished next month but currently there are no roads, footpaths, garden fences or public access to the unit. Kitchen still needs installing but wiring and sanitary ware installation is done. We have been asked to leave our rental in July (it’s not a valid eviction as landlord just wants to move friends in but still), we are under pressure.

I’m currently very anxious that the underwriter will ask for extra statements and refuse the loan offer if they are unsatisfactory. We were told it doesn’t take more than 5 days if no queries so fingers crossed that the AIP was recent enough to not need extra statements (which aren’t too pretty this month after a family emergency).

Massive queue outside Normal

At least 30 people queuing to go in. Are they giving stuff away? I wanted to look but decided the queue wasn’t worth it, will go in a couple weeks.

The South Infirmary in Cork has the only HR and payroll dept I have dealt with in Ireland that managed to pay me correctly, rectify or anticipate errors with speed and professionalism, and insist that proper occupational health procedures were followed for sick or pregnant NCHDs. They also organised NCHD teaching for interns and catered it every time, unlike many other places where teaching was an afterthought or simply skipped.

We are so close to loan offer after underwritten AIP. We also have a tight deadline as we had one extension already, but no valuation was submitted to the bank despite it being ordered 2 weeks ago. Bank says it takes an absolute max of 10 working days and the tenth day was the middle of last week.

I called the valuation people and they said they see payment and when it was ordered. Someone even accepted the assignment but no correspondence. They are trying to get an urgent reply now.

Has this happened to anyone else? If they don’t submit the report today we are going to lose the house, but I’m not sure they even did the valuation so it may be impossible for them to submit it today.

It’s a new build that isn’t complete but there’s wiring and a roof.
