Where to get affordable bulk filter sponge?

I’m making a paludarium, and am largely going to be using sponge to help form the land area. (There will be some substrate for the crabs and plants, but I am going to be using a lot of sponge for this. Unfortunately, it seems foam is extremely pricey for the amount I need, I want an 8 inch tall water area for a hexagonal tank with a diameter of 30 inches. It looks like it’s going to run me almost $120 alone for just that land area if I bought from Amazon?

Is there a cheaper way to do this? Or am I gonna be forced to splurge here?

On an unrelated note, has anyone used the skull waterfall from zoo med for their crabs? Is it safe? I wanna incorporate it in my tank because I think a pirate theme would be dope

Has anyone used palm tree moss in their vampire crab enclosures?

Or would the crabs destroy/knock it down. I like the idea of a mini beach paludarium

Fish compatibility?

I’m planning on making a vampire crab paludarium in the future, in particular I’m hoping to get gray star vampire crabs. I want to make it a paludarium and add fish if possible.

The species I want most are clown killifish, they’re among my favorite nano fish out there. Other ones I’d be interested in are chili rasboras, perhaps a true freshwater bumblebee goby, super blue kerri tetras, and other ones like that. Horned nerite snails are cool too, but I doubt the crabs would leave them alone.

Any of the fish I mentioned work? In particular the killifish and goby interest me the most.

Has anything cool happened since Mario’s Madness V2?

I haven’t paid much attention to this community since then. Kinda saw it as the one last big mod we had before the fandom finally sizzled and died. Kinda poetic BF died in that mod.

Has there been anything else that big since then? A new mainstream mod? A revival of any of the classics?

African house snake or Kenyan sand boa?

I want a snake that can live in a 40 gallon as an adult, that’s chill with handling, and won’t go on hunger strikes. I think the two best options I have are a KSB or African house snake. A rubber boa would be cool if they bred those, but they’re hard to find.

Are either good options? What would you say?

Is there any reason halogen bulbs have become less common in the hobby?

I remember my local exotics store used to stock them all the time, and they were great. They’re easy to put in and pull out, unlike the bulbs, where you can sometimes break the holder if you screwed a bulb in too well. They use less wattage. And they seemed to last a lot longer than the average bulb.

Is there a reason I’m not seeing them as much anymore? Or is it just a coincidence?

Could these be baby ferns? (Read for context)

Ok so ages ago I had a blue oil fern. It died on me, but the leaf had a lot of spores so I scattered them in my dart frog tank to see if I could get baby ferns. Over time I found these little green specs that look like moss growing in the substrate.

Could these be the start of baby ferns? Or is it just some sort of moss?

How important are schools to Amazon puffers?

I bought this little guy for my 110 gallon oddball tank a few weeks back. He eats well, but does a lot of glass surfing. None of the fish in the tank really bully him (there’s an albino Molly that’s really stupid that chases him sometimes, but that’s about it).

He was $50 so I wasn’t keen on getting more, also the idea of my tank was to get “a little bit of everything”, so as many fish that don’t need schools as possible. But I’m thinking it really is for the best to get more. Do you think it’s necessary?

Has anyone seen the difference it makes? Will I have a happier puffer? And how many more do I need minimum? Also, any tips on how to get them to eat snails? I bought a ton of ramshorns for him to chow on but I don’t think he even tried to eat any, or the blue acara got to them first.

Btw there’s so many bloodworms because I was feeding the whole tank, it doesn’t stay like that for long
