In search of remodeling GC / Los Angeles to partner w/ Builder

We used to do a lot of remodeling. We're now 100% focused on New Construction/ Home Builders. We get a lot of inquires for remodel jobs that we have to turn down. I'd rather partner with a GC that wants to work with us, where we can assist with all the admin, contracts, etc. and create a sort of remodel division. If anyone is in the LA area and interested, please PM message us.

Purchase Orders vs Sales Orders for construction business

While I know I could take to Ai, I thought to engage my fellow humans first and get some input.

In simple terms, we're construction contractors, and would like to better track our costs with our subs. We normally do a fixed fee cost with them, that may include a change order here and there.

As work progresses, do I want to record this as a PO and bill against that, or a SO and bill against that.

I suppose this could have been a general "accounting" question, but for QBO, thought this would make sense.

Thanks!!

Discussion on pay rate visibility by bookkeeper ; looking for input as we grow. (Update to a prior question answered)

I recently posted whether there was a way to remove visibility of pay rates when running payroll by someone assigned to the task. It's clear that this isn't the right approach.

For context, we've been growing, so has our payroll, and as a small business, I've always been accustomed to handling the sensitive information like what people are paid.

My fear in handing off the task is how my bookkeeper will feel when seeing the larger salaries of their co-workers. I was trying to remove any opportunity for animosity, etc. That's what sparked the conversation.

The question for you guys - how has this topic been handled? Has it been an issue? Any sort of insight on the discussion is much appreciated.

Currently with Gusto. I'm looking to have my office administrator be able to run payroll baed on timesheets. However, I don't want them to see employees wages.

What are my options here.

How would you handle a room w/ broken AC

SEE UPDATE BELOW
So, my wife was asleep, but I had a very hard time falling asleep , the AC would not work, was just blowing air. She's less sensitive than I am. I tossed and turned all night. It was the worst. Mind you, this is meant to be a *cat 5 property.

The front desk apologized when texting through the app. They're sending an engineer over this morning.

I don't normally complain about stuff, but do feel entitled to some sort of compensation here.

How would you elevate?

----

UPDATE: So, they did offer some points back as a gesture. Now get this - we booked this hotel mainly to enjoy the pool! That's why we're here. Turns out, they're having an event and the pool is closed. How does a hotel not inform its guests prior to purchasing that this is the case. 🤦🏻

Booking with points; changing to SUA when earned.

Anyone with experience with this -- I'm going to lockdown a reservation with points. I have a cat 1-7 SUA FNA award coming in, but don't want to lose out on the reservation. Can I book now, and have it swapped out later for the award. Assuming I'm booking w/ points to begin with.

Recommendations on Hyatts in NYC

While I used to spend a lot of time in NY, this the first time staying at a Hyatt. Any top 2/3 you recommend? We're ok with spending 25-30K in points for a night.

Business size - Gross Rev vs. Profit

Curious why when we talk about the size of business we run, we use gross revenue the benchmark vs profit (or even net profit).

French Dips - Cheese or No Cheese

I've recently been a bit obsessed with French Dips, and now going to make them at home. The real question - to Cheese or Not to Cheese?

I kind of feel like a purist view on this one and don't believe the cheese belongs; then again, who doesn't love cheese on a meat sandwich.

What say you guys?

LA's Management of City Services is a testament to the real issues

I'll vote for whomever I have sincere confidence in making real changes. To be clear, many of the city services and their websites are stuck in 30 year old software / processes. Just try to get a copy of your  Business Tax Registration Certificate (BTRC). There are page links that are broken on many city service websites. It feels like a lot of them are silos.

The biggest challenge any real business faces as it tries to grow/scale, is that of impelenting systems and processes. Our city is in desperate need of an overhaul of this.

The fact the owners , architects, contractors may need to hire an "expediter" is a perfect example of how chaotic things are. Literally need to hire someone that has built their entire practice on solving city related chaos.

It's not a dig to city workers. I have worked with MANY that have been extremely helpful, polite and just awesome people. They're plagued by this as well.

We suffer media focused on ratings because personal attacks and digs sell, where political theatre has become the norm and is so far removed from actual issue related discussion.

I'd love to see a candidate run for office that has a real plan and can explain it so that it makes sense. I care more about how our tax dollars are spent than whether we need to lower them.

The real devaluation Globalists need to discuss: Breakfast

So, I was fortunate enough to have experienced some really amazing status comped breakfasts, making going Globalists all the more worthwhile.

However, it seems like many hotels are now employing a sort of dumbed down/less attractive breakfast altogether.

What say you guys?

Thought I’d seen it all.
“Hey Captain, uh, seems like we got a sovereign citizen here. I can’t get this thing to respond. I’ve asked it to step out of the vehicle, no cigar. No ID… just keeps saying “You’re in a Johnny cab, hope you enjoyed the ride” 😜🥳
