friend struggling

a friend of mine is really very confused regarding what field she should get in (engineering grad). im not here ask about the fields, but how do I help her. shes really low rn and said that she might leave college and join some local one in aur hometown cuz she thinks she can't do anything and is just wasting money for a degree in a big college, I told her she's not behind, she's not lacking and she said that you're sugarcoating stuff which I'm not, she's hasn't started anything yet cuz she's confused and she's seeing people around her choose their fields and work, we have completed only our first year at college, and we are in summer rn. how do I comfort her and tell her that it's okay and she's not lacking, she is indeed competent, has really strong acads and i believe in her but she's just led back by something, I'm gonna go meet her too in a few days at her house. I told her it's okay if you choose a path and try it out, and then pivot to something else if you want to. im really concerned for her

for engineers at SLB

im a mechanical engineering student, completed my first year. rn in summer I'm working on my cad (fusion and solidworks) skills.

i want to get into the oil and gas industry, and I'm targeting SLB.

i have some questions for people working in SLB (india preferably)

  1. what skills/subjects/ projects should i work on to have a strong and relevant resume, and how tough is it to get an internship or a job at SLB (for women)

  2. how was your interview experience, like what questions did they ask

  3. how's your work experience and pay at SLB, and what pay and growth trajectory can i expect (as a freshie)

  4. if you had some piece of advice to give, to someone who's gonna start their second year in mechE, what would you give?

dev or ai/ml?

im not a csMajor, but a friend of mine is super confused and is just crashing out. they are confused between ai/ml and dev, this is what they said:

currently everyone is pushing towards ai/ml, but after a certain point, ML has to do something with research (so they prefer ms and PhD graduates), data science, and it's really saturated, and i don't wanna go that way (includes reading research papers and all). but the dev thing, it's now slowly declining, you can do dev+ai, but that's also being commoditised now. backend is facing major layoffs.

i wanted to do dev, but there's a major decline in fresher hiring for dev.

__

i don't understand, again, it's not my major, but would appreciate if anyone could help.

mechanical engineering career

I've been reading about mechanical engineering's scope in india here on reddit, and tbh, I'm shit scared now. People are saying shifting towards IT/CS would be better as a mech student. I'm from a private engineering college, although our college placements for mech are somewhat better than other private one's, (median~12.5), i still hear some of my seniors say that mech in India is just not worth it, until and unless you go abroad for masters or some. I'll be starting my 3rd sem in August, and till now I'm atleast in the top 5 kids of my batch (in mech), will try to be the 1st though now. Please give me some advice on what to focus on/learn to build a good career in mech (I'm not shifting towards IT)
