Dream company, great mento, but her elitist attitude worries me. Should I stay?
I’m interning at my dream company in a dream role. My mentor is technically excellent and has genuinely invested in me—patient guidance, useful feedback, and we share a similar background. If I convert, I’ll likely work on same role as hers.
Here’s the issue: she often makes snide remarks about people’s colleges. She’s from an NIT (not top 10), I’m from a reputed private college, and she’ll casually put down others for not being from “the right” school. She also has a “I’ll do everything myself” vibe that shuts others out. She’s still kind to me and treats me like a close friend, but I’ve seen the pattern. Another teammate told me he left because he couldn’t deal with her “I’m the only competent one” attitude.
I’m torn :
On one hand, the company and role are amazing, and she’s helped me a lot.
On the other, I’m worried her attitude might stunt my growth long-term if I stay on her team—hoarding work, dismissing others, and tying credibility to pedigree.
Questions for folks who’ve been here:
Is this a “learn what you can and switch teams later” situation?
Should I accept the offer but proactively network with other managers to line up a different home team?
Any tactful ways to set boundaries or redirect elitist comments without burning a bridge?
I don’t want to throw away a great company over one personality. How would you play this?
Actual influencers or just highly paid salesperson?
Every week, a new miracle product pops up on my feed—apparently able to cure acne, anxiety, digestive issues, and possibly heartbreak, all in one overpriced bottle. Last week it was mushroom drops, this week it’s sea moss gel infused with “good vibes” and vague science. Funny how every influencer already “swears by it” the moment it launches—must be nice to be chronically healed. The packaging screams “natural,” the claims scream “illegal in three countries,” but no one seems to care. When it is nothing more than glorified coconut oil, they just post a cute disclaimer: “What works for me may not work for you! 💫” Meanwhile, thousands are out here rubbing mystery goo on their faces because someone with a ring light and discount code told them to. Even funnier when the miracle is the same but the product is same.
WHY ARE THEY NEVER HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE CLAIMS? is my question.
