Has anyone done their CPE through the Institute for Clinical Pastoral Training? (ICPT)

If you did your CPE through ICPT, what was your experience like? Were they “old school” in their approach (abrasive/confrontational) or kinder? Did you have a positive/negative experience? Were your CPE units recognized by your residency/worksite?

Any info you might have to share is greatly appreciated.

Are CPE program interviews supposed to be… belligerent?

I have interviewed for two separate CPE cohorts, both through the same program, but with different instructors for each cohort. Both times, I walked away shocked at how- the only word I can use is belligerent- the interviewers were.

In the first interview I was asked if my first marriage ended due to infidelity.

In the second interview, I was described as “traumatized” repeatedly, even though I respectfully told them that I consider myself a resilient survivor and don’t identify with that label.

Neither interviewer asked me any questions about my spirituality or faith practice.

Both interviews were grueling, and both seemed to follow a format of ask a 2-part question > cut me off after my first answer > never let me answer the second part > then tell me I didn’t answer the question.

I was also asked several “how would you…” questions, but then got feedback that I was “explaining” when I needed to be “telling.”

I am a clinical social worker who’s done trauma work for 20 years. I have a pretty thick skin and came away from both of these experiences feeling unheard, misunderstood, and generally disrespected.

Is this sort of hostile interview the norm for ACPE education programs or is this specific site just poorly run? Or maybe, this is a me problem, and I’m just not understanding the purpose/intention of these interview methods. I’m open to that as well.

What were your interview experiences like? Were they intentionally abrasive? Or am I just not cut out for this kind of ministry?

Best salons for vivid color?

Detroit used to be home to The Hair Ball, so I know we have some amazing stylist talent in our area? Who in Metro Detroit (Oakland/Wayne/Macomb) does the best vivid color (purples, greens, blues, etc) work in our area? I need a new salon and don’t want to risk damage by choosing poorly.

Gimme your best salon and/or stylist recommendations!

Survey about deeply committed, non-sexual relationships! (Mod approved)

Hi all! The mod team gave me permission to post here about a survey we’re running learn more about the spectrum of deeply committed, non-sexual life partnerships. We want to learn more about how these relationships impact loneliness, social support, and belonging.

This is NOT an academic study- our goal is learn more about the various forms these important relationships take as background for a future book project.

If you have someone in your life that you consider to be your “ride or die person” we’d love to learn more about your life and experiences. Survey link is below. Feel free to DM me with any questions you may have. :-)

Can anyone recommend the best app for picking up Hebrew basics? Duolingo is the most well-known but has critics. I need consistent Alef-Bet practice + simple grammar instruction. DL does the former, but is terrible at the latter. What’s better out there?

My new husband and I bought an art piece on our honeymoon and shipped it home. Upon arrival, we saw a small (but noticeable) bit of damage- almost like a hole poked with a pencil- in the stretched canvas.

Is there a way for us to repair this ourselves? Or do we need a professional?
