Avoiding "I just moved sh*t with my mind" dialogue/vibes?

What's a good way to deal with this sort of vibe in your works? When something unusual/seemingly impossible happens to your characters? I don't want to undersell how outlandish some situation or thing is, but I also don't want my characters saying that sort of stuff.

For those who may not get what I'm referring to, I'm talking about dialogue like seen in Forspoken or most marvel movies. It's hard to put into words.

Fantasizing your MC while watching/reading other stories

Am I the only one who seems to fantasize about my MC while consuming other stories? As in, seeing them in that story and imagining how things would go if they were there? Almost like when you daydream in school about jumping out of the window and doing parkour or invaders randomly showing up and you defeat them all in a badass way? It's kinda like that, but seeing my story's protagonist instead of being in first person.

Fedora 43 not freeing up ram and crashing

Before the inevitable "unused ram is wasted ram", I'm getting frequent crashes and freezes because of this.

Basically, I'm running blender and using it for heavy rendering stuff. I have 32gb of ddr4 ram. Blender shows the current ram usage at the bottom, but that doesn't seem to translate into what I see in system monitor/htop. The system isn't freeing up the ram when I stop doing ram intensive things, so it essentially piles up again whenever I enable any ram hogging options. So if I enable render view the blender in-engine ram monitoring that was sitting at, say 6gb, goes up to 10-15gb (which is normal). If I disable rendered view it goes down to 6gb again. But it doesn't "free up" that ram in the system itself. It's like a memory leak or sorts, but even if I close blender entirely and open it up again the problem persists, I need to restart my pc entirely for it to work again. So if I want to actually render something, I need to restart my pc entirely, otherwise blender will run out of memory and crash.

I can't tell you exactly when this issue started, but unfortunately I've always had some memory issues with fedora compared to windows 10. Blender has always seemed more prone for crashing here, but it's been worse as of late. At times my pc will just seize up and freeze entirely because there's no more ram I guess.

I've noticed this issue with games as well. If I run cyberpunk with frame generation on after having done things on my pc (not a fresh boot) it'll look stuttery and overall awful. If I restart my pc and boot the game straight up it runs like butter.

I have a swap size of 32gb as well, so it shouldn't be that. And I did run memtest a few months ago and it was all good, but obviously that doesn't guarantee things are fine now. But I don't think this is a hardware issue.

Limited account, asking for profile photo?

I only noticed this when trying to make a new payment just now, apparently they sent me an email 3 days ago. It says they've analyzed my account and some of my details are missing of are out of date. That they need to collect the info, for me to revise my details. I'm guessing this might be because I've made some expensive purchases this weekend.

But the link they sent me is broken. If I try accessing it through my account on desktop there doesn't seem to be an option to solve this anywhere, and no notification there either. On my phone there's actually a notification regarding the issue, I click on the link on the notification within the app and it says "your personal info is now confirmed", but if I try to return to the main page it says "are you sure you want to confirm your info later?". And clearly that doesn't solve the matter.

Also, there's also this... "configure your account 4/5" widget showing up on my desktop dashboard, which wasn't there before. It says I need a profile pic, and when I go to add one, it says it needs to be a clear shot of my face. This wasn't a thing before. I tried adding a random image as the PFP but it didn't seem to fix the issue. I'm guessing my account is done for?

Including flashbacks scenes into current narrative?

So I'm writing a story with two protagonists. It starts off with the second protagonist and then they meet the first protagonist in chapter 2, after that they're pretty much always together.

They both have muddled pasts, which lead them to where they currently are. But my first protagonist's goal involves finding someone from their past, someone that won't show up in the story for a long, long while (they show up in the short prologue but that's it). I don't want this person they're looking for to feel like just a cardboard in the protagonists memory, since the only presence they currently have in the story is through interiority like "He recalled when that person used to read to him all those years ago" or something, no actual flashbacks but just sentences in the narration giving a snippet of what the memory holds. This is how I've been doing it so far, just putting these memories within other scenes without turning them into their own scenes.

The second protagonist's past is revealed slowly, more so through their actions than just their interiority alone (I alternate the POV between the two per scene/chapter), so it's now outright "shown" or told unless it's a very specific dream scene or something (which I haven't written yet, but I'm considering doing so as well). I suppose this is the more accepted way of weaving backstory into the narrative, but this works well because their past is related to the main antagonist, so those memories/wounds are bound to be more present in the story as it goes on. For the first protagonist, like I said, the person they're looking for feels more like a pipe dream than an actual achievable goal, but their time with that person basically defines who they are entirely.

The reason I'm thinking about adding actual flashbacks is because I recently watched project hail mary, and I really liked how the flashbacks added to the present time. I'm considering reading the novel mostly to see how these scenes are handled there, but I literally just watched the movie, so the story is still too fresh in my mind. But that's irrelevant.

I'm hesitant in adding actual flashbacks because most people would say that flashbacks in novels suck, just like a lot of people say prologues suck, but people tend to be even harsher when it comes to flashbacks. I guess that tracks, since I don't recall ever seeing "flashback scenes" in any novel I've read like they're done in movies, it's usually just events summarized into the character's thoughts instead of being treated as its own scene. Anyway, what are your thoughts on this?

I don't understand what's so good about Re:Zero S4Ep11

Everyone's hailing this as the best episode to come out of any anime ever, it's getting review bombed at imdb while it had a literal 10/10 for a good while if not for that. All I hear about it is praise, vague praise such as "peak cinema" and "peak" and "11/10" and "masterpiece".

I'm enjoying season 4 so far, but I still don't think this is the best episode of the season, by far, let alone the best in the series? In all of anime? Like, seriously? Everyone's glazing the hell out of the final scene where Emilia gives natsuki daniel a pep talk, and I just... don't feel it?

It doesn't help that I kinda despise Emilia as a character since season 2, she just feels so bland and uninteresting. She's got the personality and presence of a door. And now she's giving a speech which mirrors Subaru's speech to her back in season 2. Which is cool and all, but it doesn't feel like anything truly special. Specially given how it's another one of these scenes where Subaru and another characters he's having a moment with are just standing around talking this actively self-destroying place (this happens like three times in season 2). It just feels like the stakes get thrown out the window whenever that happens. And then there's the drawn out dialogue. I know anime isn't known as the media with the most profound dialogue most of the time, but it really does drag on for way longer than necessary, and it's too on the nose, which also kills any tension the scene might have set up.

Idk, these scenes always develop in such a predictable way, especially given it's not the first time a moment like this plays out. I just don't see what's so groundbreaking about it. I did like how they reused the best ending though. But that was it. It was more of an 8/10 to me. Maybe 7.6/10 if I'm focusing on the last half of the episode.

Recommendations after Mistborn Era 1 (limited third person)

I'm looking for other works in limited third person because that's the style I prefer. I'd rather read something from another author, since many say Sanderson's prose is on the simpler side, and I wanted to check something considered "better" (not exactly the right way to describe, but you know what I mean). And also because I spent too much time reading his works, I want something different. Any recommendations?

Blender on steam low brightness since fedora 44

Since I updated to fedora 44 a week or so back the steam version of blender is considerably dimmer than the rest of the screen. It's like the brightness is lower just for this app alone. The native version of blender works as usual though.

Fazer transferência acima do limite pra CNPJ no nubank?

Bagpipe solo? Sounds like a Corrs song

I have this portion of a solo from a song in my mind. I don't know where I heard it, so I did my best attempt at recreating it in midi. I think the actual instrument might be a bagpipe (it sounds kinda folkish), and it sounds similar to a song from The Corrs. Not sure if it's them, I only remember this portion of the song. The timing on the midi might be a bit off, but it sounds similar to that. Please help it's stuck in my head

Just started reading Hero of Ages...

...and am I the only one who doesn't like Elend turning into a Mistborn? Especially his allomancy being "stronger than it should be" according to Vin? I just feel like it's lame. Elend and Vin were a subversion of power dynamics, with Vin being the strong one, and Elend the strategic one. They both had their insecurities, but now that Elend is technically a more powerful Mistborn than Vin I feel like that dynamic doesn't really work anymore. Vin can't even be "his blade" anymore, now she's just his "second blade" I guess. Idk, it just feels like shounen power creep. Vin was already strong enough by the end of WoA, I don't feel like a second Mistborn was necessary.
