Cub Cadet XT1 LT46 KT-725 surging... again

Hi all. I had issues with surging a couple of months ago with my Cub Cadet XT1 LT46 Kohler KT-725 and after cleaning the carburetor, I mowed 4 times and it did great. Strong, like a new one. I made the mistake of replacing the air filter. I had seen others talking about a high profile one, so I ordered one and a new air base cover to accommodate it. Filter fits perfectly and the base cover fits but it's a little oddly shaped, it's 98% but does lock down and keeps the filter in place. Can that little bit of odd shape to let air get sucked in make the difference? After about 5 minutes of mowing, it dies. Won't start back up.

I put the old one back on and it started right up but now it's doing the dreaded surging again. I've changed the fuel filter, hoses, pump, put in quality gas and changed the plugs and oil. It does smooth out when I put the throttle lower than 'full'. I'm so frustrated with it. What would trying the high profile one for a few minutes have changed to cause surging to return? Feels like it's just pointing out a still standing issue but the issue had disappeared.

Been trying it again today after a week or putting the regular filter back on and it's surging so bad I can't mow.

Thanks

I got fantastic help here when asking about a couple of models a few days ago so I'm trying to consider a few more than I originally did. I don't want to miss something when spending this much.

I have a Hummingbird Studio Walnut that sounds great and would love one more nice acoustic. It doesn't have to be super different, just a second option. I can put a pickup in it if it doesn't have one, that's not a big deal. Aesthetics aren't top priority but if it's nice to look at, it won't hurt when I'm playing shows. I'm a solo singer acoustic act with a deep voice, if that makes any difference on what you'd recommend.

Your opinion as someone who's tried some of these would help a lot. I'm using a store card for a place I can't buy in person from but they have a return policy. I know trying the actual ones I'd buy is the best advice but I actually can't. I am going to try all I can tomorrow at my local GC just to get as good an idea as I can on which model/brand I think I'll prefer.

I am curious what you would narrow the list down to. A specific 2 or 3? Any you'd mark off immediately? Thanks for the info/opinions!

Gibson 1939 J-55

Gibson 50's J-45

Gibson 60's J-45

Gibson J-45 Walnut

Gibson J-45 Rosewood

Gibson Hummingbird (open to one in something besides walnut)

Taylor K421e (a little nervous of the smaller size)

Taylor 814ce Honduran

Breedlove Tom Bedell Signature M1 Myrtlewood (can't find anything about it almost but it sounds worth trying)

Godin Connaisseur

Epiphone IBG Hummingbird Deluxe

Epiphone IBG Dove

Seems like the post is definitely recommending a J-45 which is what my gut was telling me anyway so which one should I aim for?

Looks like there's the Slash, Standard and Standard Rosewood, Studio Rosewood and Walnut and 50's faded. Is the J55 different in a bad way? I like the look of it.

So as to not be completely hasty, the Taylor I was eyeing is the 814ce Honduran. Has anyone tried it?
