This seems like the pettiest thing g ever to me, did they really care that much if we tried to make losing the cops a little bit easier??
Hi all,
I'm looking for a bit of advice in buying my first laptop in 10 years! I'm currently using a MacBook Pro 2017 that I swapped for my last gaming PC (i5 6600k/16GB). The MacBook is very quickly dying and I need to move back to Windows, but all my knowledge of Windows hardware is about a decade out of date.

About £5-600 UK. £600 would be for a laptop that I'm sure will last 5 years or so.

Yeah absolutely.
* **How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?**
I use a docking station at a desk so form factor isn't particularly important (although I would still like portability so a laptop is key). I had a 2 in 1 and never really used the touchscreen. Performance > battery life > build quality.
* **How important is weight and thinness to you?**
Not particularly, but a light and thin laptop is always nice. Happy to make a trade-off for the performance/price
* **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.**
15.6" but open to 14" too
* **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.**
I'm planning to use it to gain some qualifications for work (UiPath and Microsoft Power Platform), which both require Windows.
I'd also use it for Adobe Photoshop/Lightroom, and likely some light video editing for YouTube (not sure which program yet!)
* **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?**
Any gaming would be emulators for old consoles where demand for power is low.
* **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?**
A USB-C port for my DisplayLink dock is a must. If a webcam is installed then a privacy switch/cover would be highly preferred

I used to be really clued up on laptops and their hardware (I worked in a PC retailer for 3 years) but the new AMD/Intel naming schemes are so confusing and it's been hard to keep up with what's what. I'm leaning towards the Core/Ultra 5 processors because Intel is what I have always had, but I've heard AMD are great now and Intel are losing their touch. Some guidance around this would be appreciated!
