a go to list for your fresh start
ive got so many juniors around me constantly asking what to pack and how to prepare for college.
4th year, almost faced everything this college has to offer and this is my hack list
PACKING
- get a good laptop, something that will last you at least 4 years. gaming laptops, dell, hp, mac; whatever you want. keep the warranty slip handy with you so that in case of fixing, you can get it done in vellore itself. and dont worry theres a decent electronic fixing shop inside campus itself
- pack your original important docs like aadhar, 10th and 12th marksheet, passbooks everything. you can pack some spare copies as well, but that's not an issue since xerox shops are present everywhere inside and outside campus.
- CONTAINERS! save space and keep everything organised: you'll have a space for yourself - decent sized tables, almirahs everything but make sure you have essentials packed in one space. for ex medicine ka dabba, khaane peene ke liye dabba (to avoid chips and other items getting soggy and moist, ew), skincare ke liye dabba, basically sabke liye dabba
- no need to have tooooo many outfits. laundry service is there. have some regular go to class wear, some outing wear and a pair of sneeks and flip flops for hostel and some formal boots/heels depending on your gender.
- naphthalene balls for almirahs and close packed spaces. i use both naphthalene and godrej air. keeps my cupboard odour and humidity free.
- mess food is okay-ish, but obviously cant compare to ghar ka khaana. to ensure you don't get sick very often (which i used to get a lot, and i learnt this very late) carry some basic supplements. no need to go berserk, very basic iron tablets, vit c tablets, magnesium tablets can help. consult your family doctor and parents 😄
- do not fill your suitcase with soaps and shampoos. all mart and hostel shops will have you covered. get one regular 1x4 soap box and 1 shampoo bottle for now, you can always restock later.
- some basic utensils (ill suggest steel ones instead of plastic) like a spoon, a plate and a bowl. i also keep disposable spoons and cups handly, for lazy days.
not related to packing, but, get some bank stuff done from hometown itself. ive noticed some bank branches are very far away into the main vellore city. i personally avoid going that way.
MENTALLY:
- nobody is a 'tera jaisa yaar kaha' type of friend in the initial days. trust takes time to build. talk to everyone, but do not get dependent on anyone. you're on your own. accept that and be happy! this is a journey that is going to make you self dependent, so embrace that. yes, you might and will find a good friend - cherish that if you do. ❤️
- talk to parents regularly, or anyone who's your support system. YOU ARE NEVER ALONE, REMEMBER. ykw, dm me if you ever feel lonely.
- seniors will never rag or harass you. yes we might me intimidating but we've all been through what you'll go through. we will help you out. feel free to reach out to us. VIT IS A RAGGING FREE CAMPUS!
- enjoy with the people in your class, your hostel, everywhere! go on outings, have lunch together after classes and maybe even host movie nights in your hostel room. follow the rules and have fun.
- never get into peer pressure. do not do drugs or consume narcotics like smoking or drinking just because your cool classmate does. its your body, your decision.
- most importantly, have fun! you'll get these 4 years only once 😃
i have written this post with utmost love and care. ive missed out on a lot of experiences too but i never regret it. always remember - its your own personal journey. no two stories will ever be the same (or ykw its VIT, they might be ! )
guys, if i missed anything or you want to add any of your hacks, comment them down!
enjoy and all the best for your new beginning. god bless you all. ❤️
