How should I make a railing for these steps?

I need to make a railing for my Mom that is having mobility issues before she falls here. How should I go about doing this? Should I just notch a couple 4 x 4’s? We put one of those wall mounted safety rails up, but it became loose so we took it out. I don’t think there is a stud in that panel where we put the putty in over it. (you can see what I’m talking about in the first picture just to the left of the handle for the sliding door… I’m talking about those two holes that have been filled in).

What makes this job kind of tricky to me at least is that the side is not flush I’m not just talking about the planks overhanging but if you look at the whole side in the third picture, you can see that it’s actually two boards and one of them sticks out farther so it will be difficult difficult to mount the 4 x 4 flush without adjusting that. We want to avoid mounting it to the wall, so I was just wanting to mount it to the stairs as they are. The stairs are already movable so I wanna keep it that way. They’re pretty heavy.

A list of the current Co-sponsors of the Celiac Safety Act...

If one of these people is a Congressional Representative of yours, please call and thank them. I've heard that if a Congressional office staff gets a call from a constituent receiving praise, it will usually make it to the ears of the Representative (as they probably get a lot of calls of disdain from constituents). If you don't see your member of Congress on here, then you should call them and encourage them to become a co-sponsor of this bill. It looks like the Celiac Safety Act has been referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, but the bill remains in the initial introduction phase with no hearings or committee discussions scheduled on the calendar. I COULD BE WRONG ON THIS. Here is a link to where I took this screenshot if you want to check on it...I think there is a way you can sign up on Congress.gov to get alerts on the Celiac Safety Act (aka H.R.9048) if you also want to follow along with its progress.

Honestly, I'm new to following along with government bills and stuff, but it would be great to just be able to QUICKLY verify whether or not something is safe and not stand there in the store looking at every little ingredient...we waste a lot of time doing this. It does NOT have to be this way! The United States is one of the only nations where barley and rye are not listed as major allergens. Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the U.K. and all EU states require food manufacturers to list gluten as a major allergen. This bill would bring the U.S. in line with the rest of the world. A lot of that came from this article from the Celiac Disease Foundation if you want to read the full thing (you should).

Check your spark plugs!

I think these might be the original spark plugs on my 09 that I just bought. The woman who owned it barely drove it and there was no record of the plugs being replaced. She was the sole owner and only put 34,000 miles on it. I put a new one in there for comparison.

Should I change the spark plugs on my new LOW mileage 2nd gen?

I just bought a 2009 Honda Fit with 35,000 miles on it. Yea. Crazy low mileage for the year, but I'm planning on driving it for a long time. It's never had the spark plugs changed according to the Carfax (and most of it was serviced at the dealer). They did do a transmission fluid flush about 10,000 miles ago, but no mention of the spark plugs being changed. I'm asking because I've read (probably on this sub) that they should be torqued to 20 ft-lbs (rather than 13 ft-lbs.) and I'm afraid mine might be a ticking time bomb.

Also, do you recommend I do any other maintenance or am I just being nervous with my new wheels?
