Are supplements (creatine, protein powder) entirely necessary for body weight exercise?

I’ve (25M) been working out from home since around February but have recently been ill so have lost the routine for the past few weeks. I want to get back into it though.

I noticed that whilst I was doing body weight exercises (squats, ab crunches, glute bridges and curls with resistance bands as some examples), I felt that my physique was not changing too much. I can see visual differences but not as much as I thought there would be after around 5 months of training.

I definitely need to work on adding more protein to my diet so that is a certainty, but my question is if using powders such as creatine or protein are entirely necessary?

My physique goal is to be relatively lean all year. To have the health benefits and the physique of someone who you can tell works out, but nothing too extreme.

Hopefully this all makes sense!

EDIT: Thanks so much for the help!

B’Day Beyoncé… a masterpiece

With the news of B’Days re release this September, I just had to look back at the track list… This run of songs is one of the best on any of her albums (pre Renny because Act 1 and Act 2 are my favourite albums).

B’Day just has everything you’d want from a Bey album.

What’s everyone’s favourite B’Day tracks ( My top 3 are Kitty Kat, Freakum Dress and Deja Vu) and do we think anything else is in store? 👀

Songs with production choices similar to ‘Acts of Service’ by Doja Cat and ‘HUH!’ by Doechii

This is probably going to be incredibly specific (and I don’t know the exact musical terminology for what I am looking for) but I will try to explain it the best way I can.

In both of these songs, they each have moments where the production moves down a note/key (???).

I’ll include examples in some screen recordings but in ‘Acts of Service’ it happens about 00:12 into the song (00:16 in the video above). The production moves down compared to the intro for a brief moment, and I really love that ‘moving down’ there.

‘HUH!’ does something similar for me, a few more times where the production moves down a note/key. This occurs at 00:04 and 00:11 in the song (00:11 in the video above as well) but also does it throughout the song.

Does anyone know what this is called when the production might move down in this way? And if there are any songs anyone can think of that do the same thing?

Hopefully what I am referring to is clear here and will try to clarify if needed!

Thanks! :)

Flying for the first time in 4 years…

I am going to be flying soon for the first time in 4 years to see some family in Spain. I have avoided flying for this amount of time because I had a pretty bad experience last time, particularly as the flight was bumpy and turbulence is where my anxiety mostly comes from.

But, this trip is important to be with a family member who will have a medical procedure so it obviously means that I should be there.

Does anyone have any advice as I am really very nervous for it?

For context, my biggest fears come from feeling claustrophobic and of turbulence/the feeling of falling.

Any female R&B/Funk artists?

I’m thinking along the lines of someone like Victoria Monét (her songs Experience and Jaguar come to mind as examples) or Amber Mark (songs like Softly or Mixer as examples), who combine R&B and Funk together.

Underrated arm exercises?

A few weeks ago, I had posted asking about any underrated glute body weight exercises and got some really great suggestions that I have been trying to implement!

Well, I’d also like to ask the same question when it comes to building bigger arms. I have resistance bands (the only equipment I currently possess) that I use for bicep curls and then I also do chair dips.

For context, I do not have access to a gym so any exercises would need to be able to be done from home without/with limited equipment.

Any exercises that anyone can think of that don’t require any equipment that can build bigger arms would be really useful! Thanks!

Products for a fluffy 90’s middle part look?

Hi everyone!

I (25 M), am trying to find products which can be used to help my hair achieve that classic fluffy 90’s middle part that guys used to have!

I have bought sea salt spray, to help when I scrunch my hair to get that look, but what other products could help here? I’ve heard that clays can help but I don’t know anything specific.

For context, my hair is pretty thin and straight, so not necessarily the wavy kind of look that the 90’s middle part usually gives. I am hoping that the sea salt spray I got (Toni & Guy) can sort of mimic this effect with enough scrunching. The length of my hair is fine, between a medium and short kind of cut, with that slight extra length where the curtains would go.

Thanks so much for any help!

Any advice for pull ups?

I (25M) have been working out for 3 months now and have built a solid routine that I am able to progressively overload. I have done my routine with mostly my body weight (aside from some resistance bands for bicep and forearm curls) but I’d like to get a bar to be able to do pull ups.

I’ve heard that they are quite difficult to fully complete, and I definitely don’t want to overestimate my strength just yet. So, my question is, does anyone have any advice or anything that really helped them when it came to progressing to completing a full pull up?

Basically, what could I potentially expect with the process of building towards that first full pull up?

Underrated glute exercises?

Hi everyone!

I (25M) have been working out now for about 3 months and have really got into the swing of things and have made some progressions! I am mostly doing compound exercises but really want to progress into dedicating separate days to different areas of the body.

I am quite curious about what kinds of exercises do you feel are underrated or really effective for glutes? I’m already trying the classic squats (and their Bulgarian split variation) but I was wondering if there are any lesser known exercises that can really help the glutes to grow?

Thanks!

EDIT: Thanks so much for all the suggestions! I don’t have access to a gym so am purely exercising with body weight, so having some more options is great to have :)

Hi all!

I was diagnosed last year and have been looking for work ever since but just can’t seem to find anything. With new situations, particularly with lots of new people, I tend to have quite major anxiety. For example, before going to university the first time (did not know about my diagnosis at this point) my anxiety was so bad that I barely ate anything for a couple of weeks before starting. And even then social interactions were hard, only being people who were on my course or by chance.

I have two degrees in English Lit so am preferably looking for something like Proofreading or Editing that can be done on a work from home basis. But to be honest, any kind of work where you get given tasks to complete for the day and are just left to your own devices would really be great.

Does anyone know any other jobs that can be done from home in the same way? Or if anyone knows where to find them/has experience working themselves?

Thanks!
