Does anyone know this author's fics?

Both of their works are coming up as mystery works, which is fine and I respect that decision, but I'd just like to know what the fics were because for some reason I can't remember at all, not even the faintest memory of having bookmarked or read them. If anyone knows, and is kind enough to share, please let me know, I'm soo curious! thanks

It's SO easy to tell when a fic doesn't use AI

You can tell know within the first paragraph that it was a person who wrote it. It's never a clear marker, rather a certain sense/intuition that flares very loudly for certain fics. As in, something about the writers language choices, their skill just makes it obvious AI was not involved because it cannot (yet) replicate it no matter how much training data it eats up.

For example ^((hope its okay since I'm using it as a counter-example but happy to remove if mods like),) take this screenshot from part-time soulmate, full-time problem by sideraclara (spectacular fic, read it). In the first two paragraphs alone, the humanness of it bleeeds through SO loudly. AI just can't come up with this type of skilled narration, dry wit, humor and snark on its own, the way a human can.

Well....not this human, but humans like sideraclara and the abundance of wonderful amazing writers we have on ao3 who put so much time and effort into writing.

Y'all are fantastic, fuck AI.

(the reverse does not follow; that if you can’t immediately tell it wasn’t AI, then it must be AI-generated and especially not within a paragraph or two. AI stole off the writers, not the other way round, so don't go around throwing stupid accusations like "too many em dashes" and "It’s not just X—it’s Y" sentences)

If a fic is AI, or you suspect it is AI, close the tab and move on. Don't comment mean things, don't start a witch hunt, and definitely do not go around on social media telling other people you think a fic is AI. Ignore, Ignore, Ignore is the only AI policy we should have.

Damn Harry (i love it)

This made me smile so hard. He'd been SAT on that and the way he pulled it out, "mused"....perfect.

I love when Harry's characterised to have that same streak of snark he has in canon, because his sarcasm is such a core part of him, and one of the things that really demonstrated Harry was kind but he wasn't necessarily nice.

At least, that was always my take on Harry and why I always found it odd when people called him 'bland', '2D', 'typical hero nice guy' etc. but I think that was mainly people who'd only watched the movies where a lot of his personality was washed out in the script writing.

(If anyone has recs 👀.....)

Some fics are worth the sleep deprivation

Here are a couple of (somewhat underrated) recs for fics I had 0 regrets staying up late for (although my manager might disagree):

(yay the new tags!! thanks mod team)

The fic that got me out of a tomarry dry spell: discrete volume of control by improbas

This longfic has got me so excited and I'm only halfway through but just had to rec it and show the author some love because it's that good, it's got this electric chemistry between Tom and Harry and a tension which just stays pulled taut: discrete volume of control by improbas. Also, the smut. :)

It's 150k words in and the author is actively working on it. However if unfinished works are really not your thing, I'd suggest bookmarking and checking out some of their shorter fics in the meantime (such as my flat is a temple (and i am the god it was built for).

Also just chucking in the other long fic I've been happily following this year, which I've already raved about but why not: Thunderstruck by Divida

We should address the repeated mixup of the 'Fic rec' and 'Looking for fic rec' flairs on this sub

I guess it's not that big of a deal but sometimes I really do want to filter by reccomendations others have offered and read their happy rants but they're always lost in a sea of people looking for recs.

Maybe renaming them would help? Another sub I'm in does it by 'Rec request', 'Recs offered' and 'In Search Of' and I think it works better because theres rarely any mixups (however it is a smaller sub so maybe more mistakes are to be expected in drarry since it's bigger).

I think its partly because 'Fic rec' pops up first people don't bother to 'view all flairs' for the "looking for fic rec" flair. So maybe simply moving them both up or down so they're next to each other and visible simultaneously would solve the issue.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Is it rude to ask my supervisor to switch from their proposed topic to my own idea?

I'm doing an honours thesis. and we can choose one of the topics that supervisors advertise, or find a supervisor willing to support a topic we propose.

Because there's imited spots for each topic and not much time, I emailed several supervisors about their listed topics and accepted the first offer I got.

Since then, I've come across a research idea of my own that I'm more interested in and would do better in since it play more to my strengths (more research focused, whereas the topic I accepted is much more technical)

I'm wondering whether I should ask my current supervisor if they'd be open to supervising my proposed topic instead of the one they advertised. Would that be considered unprofessional, given that I already agreed to their listed topic?

The last thing I want is for them to refuse, and now they also know I don't really care for their topic. Since I don't have another confirmed supervisor, I can't really back out if they reject the idea. My biggest worry is that they'll not only say no to the new topic, but don't want to supervise me at all if I ask, leaving me without a supervisor completely.

I'd really appreciate any advice from people who've been in a similar situation or who supervise student theses, would you offended/annoyed? Is it something that would make you reconsider supervising them altogether, or is it generally seen as a reasonable question to ask?

Shot myself in the foot

What's that quote about too much of a good thing? Yeah, lesson learned 😭😭

I wish I was joking but the author literally posted on their twitter that they'd recently gotten a lot of new readers, including some really mean ones........

Anything similar happened to you guys?

Your favorite fic of 2026 so far?

What new fic has been your favorite find of the year?

Mine is Thunderstruck by Divida. Someone on here recced it a while back and I'm so grateful because otherwise I would not have realised the author of one of my fav fics of all time (AFWAF) had a new long fic out. The premise is so much fun, the writing is brilliant (duh its Divida) and there's so much intrigue! I love an older Harry dynamic and it's not as common in tomarry so that's also a plus.

I'd love to hear what fics have gotten you most excited this year!

Tom has been searching, all of his life, for fulfillment. (I'd bet my ao3 account you'll love this fic)

In case you haven't come across it yet, which would be an utter injustice and I'm hence obligated to recommend it:

The main fic is found by Aquaphobe which is in Tom's pov.

I wish I could summarise it for you guys but I'm incapable of capturing the sheer intensity and scale of it. I would just urge you to read the first chapter and I'd bet my entire ao3 account that you won't be able to put it down. It is one of the best characterisations of Tom you'll ever read - cruel, eerie, terrifying, insane and yet so so human?

I know WIPs aren't ideal recs but it's so worth it for this one. It deserves so much more love but unfortunately the kudos button doesn't understand that once is simply not enough.

And once you're up to date with that and will no doubt be craving more, you can soothe the itch with this side fic which covers Harry's pov (but needs context from 'found'):

and never dwell by Aquaphobe

Both are phenomenonal.
