One Card, Three Modes — This Is How Public Transport Should Work 🚇🚌

Today in Delhi, I got to experience just how convenient NCMC can actually be.

I’m currently in Delhi, and during this trip I’ve been using my Bharat Yatra NCMC card across all three modes shown on the card itself — Namo Bharat RRTS, Delhi Metro, and buses.

Today, I used the same card to simply tap in and tap out on the Metro and Namo Bharat, and tap it on the bus to generate my ticket. No QR codes, no opening apps, no waiting for anything to load. Just tap and travel.

QR tickets work, but when you’re travelling frequently, a physical card is honestly much more convenient.

The Bharat Yatra card itself cost just ₹50. And if you have an NFC-enabled Android phone, you can even check and update the balance of the card’s offline wallet through the app. With an iPhone or a phone without NFC, you still need to visit the relevant Metro station or use the bus conductor’s machine to update the balance after a recharge.

Hopefully, as more Bengaluru Metro lines come up, NCMC acceptance expands across BMTC buses, and eventually K-RIDE becomes operational, Bengaluru can get a similar truly integrated system.

One card for every mode of public transport — that’s the kind of multimodal transport ecosystem I’d love to see in Bengaluru. 🇮🇳

I travelled almost half the Namo Bharat route + return journey and paid just ₹30 😭

For anyone who hasn’t noticed this, the maximum permissible journey time on Namo Bharat RRTS is interesting.

As per the official journey-time rules, there is a specific maximum time allowed when you enter and exit at the same station, while for a journey between two different stations, the maximum permissible time is 180 minutes.

The important part is that the 180-minute limit applies between any two stations, regardless of how far apart they are. So, unlike Delhi Metro, where the permissible time is linked more closely to the distance/journey, Namo Bharat seemingly gives you the same 180-minute window whether you’re travelling between adjacent stations or stations much farther apart.

So I decided to test what happens if you actually make use of that time.

I entered at Sarai Kale Khan and travelled all the way to Duhai. From Duhai, I changed to the train towards Duhai Depot, went there, and then took the reverse train back.

I then travelled all the way back towards Delhi and finally exited at New Ashok Nagar RRTS, which is just the second station after Sarai Kale Khan.

So my actual journey was basically:
Sarai Kale Khan → Duhai → Duhai Depot → back towards Delhi → New Ashok Nagar

That’s a substantial portion of the corridor plus a return trip, but because my entry and exit were Sarai Kale Khan → New Ashok Nagar, I was charged only ₹30.

So I essentially travelled all the way to Duhai Depot and back, but the system charged me according to the short journey between my entry and exit stations.

Obviously, I’m not saying people should abuse this. I was specifically testing whether the AFC system actually accounts for the distance travelled inside the system or simply checks the entry/exit stations and the permissible journey time.
And apparently, in my case, it was the latter. 💀

Confusion or Scam?

So i have a rupay credit card which is NCMC and also works in AVMs.

I topped it up using other bank UPI for ₹100.

But the credit card of UBI also shows debited ₹100 and paid to delhi paralelly.

I am losing ₹200 for ₹100 recharge, one through my UPI and other through credit card.

Is there any server related bank issue or dmrc issue i am stuck from both sides.
Because DMRC would say u paid through UPI as i got the receipt from AVM, but even UBI says debited.

Couldnt find this NCMC issue anywhere, anyone can help me out regarding this?
