Heartbroken for my kids

Watching my parents be grandparents vs. my in laws be grandparents is NIGHT AND DAY.

My in-laws live a whopping 11 minutes from us (I just mapped it) and have only seen my children ONCE in the past 4 months. Meanwhile my parents live thousands of miles away and have visited twice in that period for an extended amount of time. My parents also FaceTime them daily because DUH they miss them and want to see them and learn everything about them.

When my in laws have been around my kids (mostly my toddler because they’ve only met my newborn once LOL) they’re not interactive (don’t get on the floor to play, don’t try and engage with toys, don’t offer to go outside to play, don’t try and read books, etc.) they just sit on the couch and try to talk to him or ask us what he’s been doing, blah blah blah.

They have watched my first child multiple times and it was mostly fine but at this toddler stage I WOULD NEVER. They would turn the fucking tv on and try to get him to watch so he’s not running around doing normal toddler shit. I am not anti screen time but wtf interact with him more?? Learn what his favorite things are??

I’ve been with my husband for 10 years so I know them pretty well but knowing them as grandparents has been so eye opening. It’s also been even more heartbreaking to listen to my husband talk about the way they were absent parents when he was growing up. Not going to his little league games? Not going to his track meets in middle school and high school? Honestly not really giving af about him and his brother from what I can tell. He grew up in a HCOL area, affluent neighborhood and his parents had the time). I guess they were just not interested.

I don’t even know wtf I’m trying to accomplish here but I’m just fucking heartbroken. My kids deserve so much more from them and it’s so sad that they’re pretty much strangers and will unfortunately just be like this for the rest of their lives I guess.

Looking for best places to donate.

I just cleaned out my closets and have a lot of things that need a new home. I hate to admit this but I usually donate to goodwill because it’s the most convenient but I don’t agree with their practices.

I have women’s clothes/shoes and boys clothing sizes premie to 2T. I also have a bunch of stuff someone can use for an infant (bottles, teethers, burp clothes, towels, baby swing etc.)

Would love to donate to a women’s shelter or honestly someone personally who really needs it. Everything is in great condition.

Any suggestions?

How many of you did this on purpose???

Just found this sub. SAHM to a 21 month old boy and 4 month old girl. This age gap was not my plan but clearly I was being irresponsible and here I am.

I love both of my kids to pieces but man is this emotionally exhausting. I feel so bad for my older child because he is not getting 100% of me and he deserves that for his development IMO.

I am also just terrified for the future because I know how much harder a kid gets. My son was a chill, easy going baby and now he is an absolute menace. My daughter is just as chill and I’m just bracing myself for having to deal with 2 toddlers.

Idk what I’m trying to accomplish with this post but I am IN THE TRENCHES.

Someone please just tell me it gets better and my guilt of having them so close together will go away.

EDIT: thank you for all the positive feedback and solidarity. I appreciate having community so much. If any of you are in the PNW (specifically Snohomish county lol) please message me. Would love to connect with other parents in the same trenches.

Ofloxacin for 22 Month Old

My 22 month old son was just prescribed ofloxacin eye drops for his ears for severe hard wax and an ear infection.

This was prescribed from an ENT and not his pediatrician (not sure this matters).

I stumbled across this sub and now I’m freaking out. My son has never been given antibiotics of any kind, he has only taken Tylenol.

He has had 3 doses of drops in each ear at this point. He obviously can’t fully communicate if he’s feeling any side effects and I haven’t noticed anything so far. What should I do? Is it ok to stop the drops at this point and request another appointment to talk about another alternative?
