McCloud

so… I get it, or at least I get it as much as anyone born in the early 80s can. But I’m always amazed by the longevity of this joke. I don’t have any value judgments really just … does anyone find this one funny every time? If so, did you watch McCloud? Was this just a weird obsession of one of them? What do you all think?

edit: I think my question has been answered, it’s the reference within the show more than the reference itself and I should really just relax 😎

Do you display all exhibits from a theme or pick & choose?

pretty much the titile. I’ve been making “everything” sandbox museums focusing on two or three main themes (like art & supernatural, or prehistoric & botany & aquarium), but to keep gaining buzz and make an interesting experience I tend to start collecting from all over the map.

My instinct is to display everything I collect, even if it’s not the exhibit I was hoping experts would find on expeditions. And if the museum is primarily, say, prehistory I feel like I should show alllllll the prehistory exhibits.

but this means that the museum is sprawling and even then it’s hard to cram everything in with benches, info boards, donations, decorations, etc. Even if I go in intending to make it sparse my rooms end up being crowded.

I’ve lately seen some YouTubes sbowing a lot of empty space and really cool designed rooms with only a few exhibits in each. To do that means I really need to curate what I put in the museum so it’s not jam-packed.

What’s everyone else’s strategy? Collect and display everything? Display only your favorite or highest-buzz exhibits? what do you do with the extra ones, analysis?

Love this game!!!

Seems like Bear Grylls lied about seeing Rob Hall’s body in 1998?

I found “Facing Up” in a free library! Huge score during Everest season!

Classic Everest narrative about his 1998 first climb. Then I got to page 246. Where he rounds the South Summit and claims he saw Rob Hall’s body. It seems like he’s repeated this claim a few times since in books and interviews.

Surely this is a lie? The 1997 spring climbers say that Rob was gone when they passed, and Guy Cotter muses that he got avalanched off in the intervening winter. In his recent book Cotter says no trace of Rob has been seen since late-season 1996.

idk I know it’s only us hyper-obsessives that would pick up something like that but pretty crappy to claim, no?

ETA: here’s a quote from Guy Cotter’s newish book, Everest Mountain Guide, about his summit day in 1997 with David Brashears: “I asked David where Rob’s body had been lying where he’d seen it the previous year and he pointed to a position not far below the top of the South Summit … But there was no sign of Rob now. I found this surprising also and asked David what he thought. ‘Buried, perhaps?’ was his response. In all the years since, Rob’s body has never resurfaced, even though the snow has ablated a lot from that area. My suspicion is that the small col avalanched, taking him with it, just as the slope had done when I climbed through there in 1995.”

ETA2: This message board sorta investigates this and point to an interview with Vanity Fair where Grylls is talking about the movie Everest and says: “I not only know this scene from this film well, I know that situation well. And I was on Everest a couple years after Rob died up there. I actually saw Rob up there, when we climbed it, pretty well perfectly preserved.”
