Young couple from Utah moving to San Diego

Young married couple (25M and 26F) thinking about moving to SD county next year. Here are our priorities:

- Proximity to urban amenities (not necessarily needing to be in a metro urban area, just typical amenities that urban areas offer)

- Proximity to beach (ideally a 15-30 min bike ride, but I know that’s a lot to ask for; definitely flexible on this, and just excited to be able to drive to the beach anytime we want!)

- Safe and diverse neighborhood (we are both ex-Mormon if that says anything about us; progressive beliefs; I’m white but speak fluent Spanish and love Hispanic culture)

- Good walkability

- Great food selection (big foodie and coffee aficionado)

- Affordability

- Not planning on having kids for the next 3-5 years and would love to be able to find a community of people in the same stage of life as us

Planned dual income next year is $160-$175k before taxes. Both of us work remote. Not planning on buying a house anytime in the near future. Would love to find a 2 bed apt, budgeting for MAXIMUM $3200 in rent. Where are some cities/neighborhoods to consider?

Places we’re currently considering:
- Oceanside
- Ocean Beach
- Point Loma
- Golden Hill
- Little Italy

*not opposed to going a bit more inland

Nothing compares to morning coffee

Not sure if other people feel similarly, but there’s really nothing that compares to that first morning cup of coffee.

I’m a bit of a coffee aficionado and have gotten into the science and craft behind making great coffee. That said, does anyone else feel the same way about their morning coffee?

I take my coffee black, usually drip or hario v60 pour over, with the occasional macchiato or cortado. It’s gotten to the point where sometimes I fall asleep thinking about making my coffee the next morning. It’s something I really look forward to, not in like a “I’m addicted” way; rather, part of a really fulfilling routine and something that I feel I can really do intentionally. It also tastes so damn good.

Coffee isn’t the first thing I drink in the morning. After waking up, I’ll drink around 20-30oz of water with electrolytes to re-hydrate, I’ll exercise for about 45 mins, shower and get ready for the day, and then make my coffee. It usually ends up being 1.5-2 hrs after I wake up which I like because it makes me feel more in control of myself and less dependent on a substance to “wake me up.” I rarely take coffee to go, it’s something I drink slowly to savor and enjoy thoroughly. It’s not my morning energizer; rather, my morning simple pleasure.

I guess I’m a bit of an anomaly too because I don’t seem to feel the effects of caffeine the way a lot of people do (jittery, energetic, anxious, etc). I consume 400-600 mg of caffeine each day just with coffee (have ditched energy drinks entirely). The only way that caffeine really affects me is if I drink at least 12oz of coffee on an empty stomach in the morning. It makes me feel like a fucking superhuman - ultra focus, hyper aware, relaxed, peaceful, and just overall amazing. Doesn’t last super long, but can definitely feel something… anyone else relate?

Quality coffee is one of my most prized possessions and honestly something that simply cannot be replaced - doesn’t compare to anything else. Maybe I’m just a weirdo but it’s honestly such an amazing and important part of my life.

Shit, maybe I am addicted. But I don’t feel dependent on it! There will be some days (rarely) that I’ll not have coffee for whatever reason and yeah maybe a tiny headache or brain fog around 1 or 2 pm, but it goes away quickly.

Would love to hear what people think about this and if it resonates with anyone else hahaha.

If there’s one well-known church leader (dead or alive) that would leave the church if they could, who would it be and why?

Uchtdorf is my vote. Man got demoted from the first presidency when Rusty became prophet. I bet he’s thought about leaving. You can just feel it when he talks. I’m telling you, the guy has so much going for him outside of the bubble and damn right he’s aware of it. Just too far gone.
