I remember watching this as a pretentious teenager gatekeeper and thinking that "they were the One Direction of their time" (derogatory)
Was I wrong?

Was I wrong?
Every time I see one of these kids and the way they dress and the music they listen to (the call it "punk") I feel personally attacked and lowkey opressed. Where's my freedom to listen to REAL music instead of that crap? It's not my fault that they listen to what can obly be described as barely music. If they can't stand that fact, I won't consider them capable of appreciating Pink Floyd's maestry. Is that bad? Am I lying? Am I wrong? Why do people think I'm an "elitist" or whatever?
I actually skipped a concert because I didn't want to listen to the whole rock opera thing Billy has going on
Set in post-apocalyptic US, very moody, a father and son going through the remains of civilization. What albums invoke an appropriate atmosphere? Mainly I've reading it to the Disintegration Loops and now Daughter of Darkness
Well I just started writing something longer than I usually do, with lots of more characters and plot points ths my previous stuff. I started with the exercise of decidong voices, tone, the way dialogue is incorporated in the text, etc. and didn't write much of the major plot point. What's the best way/format to have your main ideas written down. In one hand, so you don't miss the forest for the tree, and can actually have mind what the overarching ptoject/narrative is, and on the other hand, just to avoid forgetting stuff and the connections between main ideas.
I know there are infinite ways to do this, I want to know what have you found to be the best way/the one that suits you better
I mean. Every time I open Reddit I see your posts so I cannot actually feign dementia and pretend I don't know who they are or whatever. If I wanted to go out to the IRL world (yes, I am a redditor who occasionally leaves their house), how long do you think I could go without hearing about these four dudes?
Yes, that would involve leaving Reddit, which we all know is a good thing to do.
I come from philosophy where the concept of an "outdated" work is not so common —surely there will be always someone that can get something new out of every book.
My grandad was a historian and he passed away recently. I've been going through his books and noticed some that may be of interest eventually. Mainly secondary sources. For example, Eric Hobsbawn's "History of the 20th century".
My questios is what should I do to see if some of these books are relevant. Many of them will surely not be so, as they are very old. Some of them may still be of interest.
So basically there were these european explorers going through south eats Africa right after WW1. The place was so damaged due to the war that a local kingdom wasn't able to carry their trade goods to where they needed to send them, they had their canoes and barges destroyed and so. And the explorers tried to help them through and avoid a rival kingdom/tribe. At one poin they deviced floaters that they could put in water so the people could tow them from the shore. When they were putting them together they saw a canoe full of beautiful white women (????) apparently sent by the rival kingdom or the germans to distract them, and then the women got immediately and brutally mauled by an elephant that showed up out of nowhere. It was really gnarly.
I remember exiting the cinema and saying to whoever was with me "Nolan loves to do this. He shows you something you love and makes it extremely violent".
I like long albums. I like when you can get lost in it, when it actually feels like you don't know where you are. It's like sailing through the ocean in a small boat. But in this case, the ocean is 2 hours of doom metal. But also, most bands that reach this length are funeral doom bands, who can hold the same chord for 10 minutes. This is more like traditional doom, with some chunky riffs and different parts. It's not just the sheer magnitude of the thing, but the fact that it's still so entertaining. I don't know any other album that balances those two things like this one. Again, album is III: So Long Suckers by Reverend Bizarre
I mean I know there are other languages but Plato and Aristotle write in greek???? I mean nobody speaks greek why would they do that???? Don't they want people to understand them, and also they won't know what the english translation will say, so I could say I just translated the Nicomachean ethics but make it full of sex and violence and Aristotle wouldn't ever know? He doesn't speak english???
In a democracy —or at least in a self-respecting democracy— if you’ve read Plato’s Republic, your vote should count double. You’re more intelligent than the rest, and you know what lies outside the cave. Therefore, you’re closer to being the Philosopher-King. You have more authority than ordinary people. Why should your vote be worth the same as theirs?
How can I get lawmakers to pass this legislation and turn my country into a superpower?
Who made him think I want a 2-minute shredding show in my indie music. I get it, he's a chad, but I am not. I am a sad, pathetic little man and I like indie because is made by and for sad, pathetic little people like me. I don't want anyone cosplaying as a 70's guitar hero. The should play his music in 95.5 KLOS or those radio stations that my girlfriend's best friend listens to
I wonder if having sex is still possible after becoming a philosopher or if it dumbs you down and you should avoid it.
I just finished reading the whole SEP and listened to the whole HoP podcast as far as it has gotten. I also have read and re-read Russell's History of Western Philosophy. I think that I'm ready to start calling myself a philosopher.
I was wondering if having sex is still allowed when you're smart. I don't want to become stupid again. I have protect my powerful brain now. But I would be interested in having sex if there was an opportunity.
I have never had sex before, but I can get to study it so I can become good. But also I want to remain brilliant and strat solving problems like the existence of God or the meaning of life in the universe and everything.
EDIT: I've noticed that the only people that get laid in this field are pedos, which is horrible. And also French, which is also kinda cringe.
Look I like all this stuff about thinking about thinking and all. I think that thede people were oretty smart. And I think I'm pretty smart too. But I thought that after finishing my degree I would become one of those famous intelectuals who appear in TV and podcasts saying smart stuff and making a lot of money. How do I do to get a book published by a big publisher? I want people to make shirts with my face and memes with my ideas.
What's the most popular brand of philosophy to get famous and viral? Should I be a marxis-hegelian, a new atheist or a libertarian conservative? I don't have morals, I just wanna make money. And what kind of jokes and popular culture references should I use? Also I can adopt some kind of tic or involuntary movement that would make me identifiable and people would reference in memes.
How do you all do it? I wanna be a famous philosopher like you
I know it will revolutionize philosophy in a way that it will be the only form of thinking people in academia will adopt to solve each and every extant and future problems. I still don't know rthe name this new, revolutionary thought will have. But I have designed a method for it. It's the following:
1st: Identify a problem in the world, of any kind
2st: Identify it's observable and quantifiable aspects. As much as you can, translate into logico-mathematucal language, in such a way that you build an abstract model exoressed en formal terms whose propieties we can easily study
3st: Use that model to identify possible factual questions that can be expressed in the formal terms of the model and quantified in a precise way
4st: Formulate a hypothesis about a possible answer to that question that can be answered by cinducting an experiments
5st: design and conduct and experiment. It needs to be done in such a way that anyone can replicate
6st: verify your hypotesis via the formalization of the results of rhe experiment. Your model should be confirmed as valid or not, and then adjusted accordingly
In that way, you can build a corpus of abstract formal model that will grow more and more precise with time, thus given us a way to clearly and precisely explain every phenomenon and problem we hav ever experienced. It obviously will help with problems like religion, morals, methaetics, aesthetics, and the meaning of life. The applications are endless
Ksyo. Es absolutamente irracional
