Kraken 2026 offseason trade targets?

If the Kraken try to improve their roster through the trade market this season, who do you think they should try to bring in?

Here's a few forwards I'd be interested in to bring in more scoring talent:

LW/RW Matthew Knies, 23, Toronto

79 gp, 23 g + 43a = 66p. $7.75M x 5, ends as UFA

Knies would only be available if Toronto's new front office decides to blow it up and completely rebuild, so that's probably a prerequisite for this to happen.

Knies is young enough to stick around through a rebuild, but would probably be the 3rd most valuable trade piece off their NHL roster. Knies would help solve a glaring need the Kraken have for top 6 scoring wingers, and is young enough to grow together with players like Beniers.

C Marco Rossi, 24, Vancouver

33 gp, 8g + 14a = 22p. $5M x 2, ends as RFA

Rossi is in a similar situation as Knies, being a young player with upside who is on a team staring down a potential rebuild. Rossi probably would end up as a winger on the Kraken, or maybe serve as a Shane Wright replacement if the Kraken move him out this summer. Beniers - Rossi - Stephenson could be decent down the middle.

Rossi struggled with a season-long fractured foot injury, which limited his time to just 33 games. But he still put up a respectable 22 points in those games, and had 73 the season before.

RW/LW Alexis Lafreniere, 24, NY Rangers

82 gp, 24g + 33a = 57p. $7.45M x 6, ends as UFA

The Rangers are just entering a rebuild and already sold off a lot of guys including Panarin last season. Lafreniere has not produced as you'd want for a 1st overall pick, but has been doing better with 57, 45, and 57 points over the last 3 seasons. With his cap hit, could the Kraken leverage their cap space and bring him in as a 2nd liner?

RW/LW Cole Perfetti, 24, Winnipeg

68 gp, 12g + 20a = 32p, RFA

Also a possible offer sheet target, Perfetti (like many Jets) is coming off a disappointing year after scoring 50 points the previous season. Connor Hellebuyck was not shy about his feelings after the season ended, and maybe the Jets look for a larger retool even though they are just 1 year removed from winning the President's Trophy.

LW JJ Peterka, 24, Utah

82 gp, 25g + 22a = 49p. $7.7M x 4, ends as UFA

Peterka is a player I've targeted for the Kraken before, but Buffalo moved him to the Clubbers last summer. His first year in Utah was a struggle as he did not find a fit. He played just 13:38 per game in the playoffs, 10th among Utah forwards, and had 0 points in 6 games.

I still think Peterka is a talented player and this could be a buy low opportunity if Utah wants to move on, but I'd be concerned about his fit in Lambert's defensive focused system.

RESULT - Kraken pick 7th. Toronto jumped to 1st and San Jose to 2nd. https://www.reddit.com/r/SeattleKraken/comments/1t4w0oa/the_seattle_kraken_will_pick_7th_overall_in_the/

Watch: ESPN, TVAS, Sportsnet

The NHL Draft Lottery will determine the 1st round draft order among the 16 teams who did not make the playoffs. Two draws will determine who picks 1st and 2nd, though teams can only move up 10 spots.

4 lottery balls will be drawn live, with each team in the lottery having different numbers of combinations - the more combinations, the more chances to win. As balls are drawn the broadcast will show each remaining team's chances.

You can sim the lottery at https://tankathon.com/nhl .

The Kraken have about a 16% chance to pick either 1st or 2nd, a 25% chance to stay at 6th overall, and a 58% chance of falling back 1-2 spots due to teams jumping them.

Check out Elite Prospects' Top 32 list here https://www.eliteprospects.com/draft-center/eliteprospects.com to see who might go at each spot.

You can see how the process will work by watching the 2025 draw that resulted in the Islanders jumping from 10th to 1st and picking Matthew Schaefer - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WflLxFI2Nvk

Inspired by today's ECH podcast , I thought it would be interesting to do my own list of potential RFA targets for offer sheets this offseason. Offer sheet rules - https://puckpedia.com/offer-sheet-tracker

I'm only going to mention players who I think the Kraken have a decent chance to get, either through the offer sheet or by forcing a trade by threatening an offer sheet. For a number of these guys I expect going from a playoff team to the Kraken will be a challenge they'll need to overcome by selling the team and city.

The key compensation break points are for offer sheets not requiring a 1st round pick (<$4.68M AAV) and those requiring more than one 1st round pick (>$9.36M). Between that the Kraken give up a 1st + either a 3rd or a 2nd+3rd.

Pavel Dorofeyev, VGK, LW, 25

Vegas is cap strapped and may struggle to afford to keep Dorofeyev who scored over 70 goals across the last 2 seasons. He's got the most proven goal scoring upside on my list and he's a player who easily could justify risking an unprotected 1st round pick to acquire. He just scored Vegas' 1st playoff goal of tonight's game as I'm typing this up!

Zach Benson, BUF, C/LW, 20 or Peyton Krebs, BUF, C/LW, 24

Buffalo has a decent amount of free space for next season, but has a bunch of players to re-sign including pending UFA Alex Tuch and 3 prominent RFAs - Benon, Krebs, and Kesselring. The Kraken could benefit from adding a young RD like Kesselring but don't really have a roster spot for him, so I'll focus on their 2 forwards.

Both produced about the same this year around 40 points, but Benson is 4 years younger. I'm guessing Buffalo would prioritize keeping Benson over Krebs if they had to choose between them, but you never know.

Mavrik Bourque, DAL, C, 24

With Dallas likely to re-sign Jason Robertson for big time money, Bourque should be a prime trade or offer sheet target after scoring 20 goals and 41 points last season but having a blank score sheet so far in the playoffs. If the Kraken could get him in the 2nd round pick only range (<$4.68M) I think this is a no-brainer.

Mackie Samoskevich, FLA, RW/C, 23

Florida somehow bewitched Samoskevich and his agent last season and convinced them to accept a league-minimum 1-year contract coming out of his ELC, presumably by saying they'd pay him this summer. They have $15M in cap space but need to fill big roster holes like Bobrovsky in net, and could struggle to bring Mackie back after a meh 12 goal and 32 point season, basically flat from his age 22 season. A big selling point to the player and agent may be increased playing time and a short contract at big money, allowing him to ring the bell in a couple of years if he pops off.

Zack Bolduc, MTL, RW/LW, 23

Bolduc took a step back in the regular season with 28 points compared to 37 last year with the Blues, but has produced well in the playoffs with 3 points in 4 games. Right now it looks like Montreal will have plenty of cap space to bring him back, but if they go big on the trade or free agent market that might squeeze Bolduc out.

Simon Nemec, NJD, RD, 22

I've mostly avoided defensemen in this list because the Kraken have maybe only 1 open spot there, but Nemec's roller coaster in New Jersey is hard to pass up. There's been reported friction between him and the team and they have a ton of money committed already between Hamilton and Luke Hughes. The new Devils GM might be willing to make bigger changes to his roster, and maybe Nemec will be a guy they are willing to move to help their roster get back to playoff contention now.
