Quitting On Comeback
I have quit expecting a WHITE COLLAR TWO. I don't follow the rumors anymore.
Always thought there would be a 90 minute MADE FOR TELEVISION movie based in Paris.

Does the prospect of new or additional tariffs affect your purchase urgency ?
As our disposable professor in residence has noted, the Chinese instruments manufacturing factories excel at making decent and better euphoniums for a fraction of the US or Europe made retail cost. Customs must see a lot of importing to target a class of music instruments.
Thinking about coupling Bach 7C to my euphonium for playing jazz and pop styles. Solo
I used it in a trombone and seemed like an "easy" mouthpiece to play well.
Thought about using in a euphonium, small shank, not for concert or section.
On recommendation, I have a used BACH 7C small shank on the way to combine with my cheap, small bore valve trombone ($30 delivered; in my budget).
Have been using a BACH 5G, which was better sounding than a Wick 5BS.
Open to your recommendations for cheap MPs suitable for low end import valve trombone (very small bore).
Coming to the end of a long run (years) of buying, learning, playing, and flipping CHEAP brass wind Instruments.
It is interesting that Chinese brass wind instrument exporting excels in specific Instruments and really lags at others.
Flugelhorns - Chinese manufacturers dived in and quality soared in just a few years. Especially good cheap lines.
Euphoniums - Chinese manufacturers dived in and quality soared in just a few years. Many decent cheap lines and several top lines.
Trombones - nope. Just acquired a valve trombone that retails for $700. Not all bad. Good case. Great finish. Body is decent build. But the valves and spit valves are so cheap or rushed.
Also bought and flipped five American made trombones from 1970 - 1982. All solid. Great restorations with just a clean and lube.
I surmise the Chinese brass wind manufacturers veer to under served instrument markets. They have been wise to avoid trombones. The vintage made in USA stock is superior.
Found in old personal inventory:
in box Wick CLASSIC 5BS mouthpiece.
I do not recall when I purchased, but it would have been with intent to use on my euphonium.
Put on my just acquired, like new, least interesting model Chinese import valve trombone (Stagg brand).
As I had hoped, some improvement in the upper range.
Could be Honeymoon Affect because I always wanted to be that poster swooning over a mouthpiece tripped over while liquidating Uncle's estate, etc.
Nonetheless, I love the way Wick CLASSIC 5BS looks!!!
As a settlement for over playing the pop tune

Condition
This trombone is not functional, and in poor overall condition.
The instrument is complete, but needs to be repaired.
The brace on the main inner slide is broken and needs to be resoldered.
The horn is othewise very beat up and shows heavy cosmetic wear throughout, including dents, dings, scratches, lacquer wear, tarnish, oxidation, discoloration, and general finish loss.
The bell section shows visible dents and surface wear.
The slide tubes show plating wear, scratches, tarnish, and cosmetic wear.

Good news, Made in USA
For those who keep asking about salsa improvisation, watch this at least until the horns go on riffs.
Salsa improvisation is not John Coltrane AS MANY NOTES AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE.
Salsa improvisation is not Miles Davis AMAZING SPONTANEOUS LYRICAL SOLOING.
Salsa improvisation is NOT JAZZ.
Beat. Rhythm. Repetition. Simplicity. Make the feet shuffle. The notes are little sonic hammers accenting the taps.
Trombone as "percussive".
Is a Getzen trombone with no model number, just the brand and the Wisconsin location, automatically a 300 series ?
I have to stop listening to what people paid before COVID and tariffs.
Please give me costs on the (my opinion) best student vintage tenor trombones.
Criteria:
With Case, VG+ to FINE. Good used market supply. Current brand.
GETZEN 351
GETZEN 451
YAMAHA 354

Throw in what you want. I am not buying OLDS brand for no reason other than I have several other brand preferences, such as KING 606.
Barry Mosley is a professional VALVE TROMBONE player.
Mosley studies the subject extensively and has a You Tube site. He committed to valve trombone a long time ago.
https://youtube.com/@barrymos?si=3Ob1vQEs8gzM3We0
While 3/4 of valve trombones for sale on eBay are mass produced PRC imports, there is a strong vein of American vintage models from the Golden Age. Mosley wrote a book about American manufactured valve trombones and this video on You Tube discloses a lot of the content.
I watch eBay for all the euphonium action in my budget.
The stuff from India sits forever, both unwanted and silly cheap. Why doesn't India export great instruments ?
A decent Amz-JinBao factory brand unit comes and quickly goes in the sub $600 bandwidth. Mendini and Cecillio labels have been replaced with ROWELL, fwiw.
The one that always appears in searches. Gets sold and resold weekly in America. Truly the Olds Cutlass / Toyota Camry euphonium of the American music psyche: the non-compensating Yamaha YEP-321.
And this is not merely respect. It is obsession. It is ridiculousness.
Any 321 obviously just dreged from the city river will fetch $500 sleeping, 97% seller.
A good used 321 starting at an Earth level bid stops the heart. Oh, sorry, within 24 hours of conclusion, it is well over $1,000 after shipping.
Mint or FINE+ and it becomes cost wise questionable to me:
why not be looking at NEW fully compensating Jin Bao horns -- or even a JP 274 ?
In my experience, the build quality on top JP models is fantastic. Clearly above JinBao and as good as good vintage American gear.
IS THE AMERICAN MARKET FEALTY TO THE YEP-321 BECOMING SILLY ?
DOES A YEP-321 SOUND BETTER THAN ALL OF THE JIN BAO OR JP MODELS ?
Was a time that Made in Japan was the mark of cheap and disposable. Is there a current xenophobia against Made in China ?
I don't say it is rare or common, but I have never seen it. In every video (there are dozens), this very good euphonium player uses two fingers on the # 2 valve. Doesn't seem to get in the way.

I read that his mouthpiece was usually a 7C or 6.5 but modified inside.

I think 4V non compensating euphoniums may have a place in blues, jazz, and soul chamber / improvisation groups.
Please direct me to artists or You Tube clips of euphonium in R&B, blues, bluesy ballads, or long jazz improvisation. Small ensemble and gritty. T Y
I live for the cheap horn and apply techniques that make them well.
Recently posted about a new / repack $425 3V euphonium. Off brand import from China. Dealer included free shipping / free returns. Used before and verified it is 100% paid shipping free returns.
Was replied, oh for just twice that you could have bought new compensating euphonium, same factory. I am not buying that story. Nope.
Show me a new or like new repack Jin Bao make, free shipping / free returns, compensating euphonium in USA retailer for $850. Or $900. Or $950.
More than double, I doubt it. Prove me wrong.
