Need advice: S22 developed vertical line AND restarts post-update (Techs confirmed zero physical damage, quoting ₹40,000)

Hey everyone,

I am seeking advice on how to proceed with a complex hardware issue on my Samsung Galaxy S22 that started immediately after a system update.

My phone has been kept strictly in a heavy-duty protective case with a screen guard since day one. I took it to an authorized Samsung service centre, where the certified technicians thoroughly inspected the device. They officially verified and documented on the system job card that the phone has absolutely zero physical damage, no cracks, and no liquid exposure.

The issue is that immediately after installing an official Samsung software update, a vertical pink line appeared on the display. Concurrently, the phone has also started randomly hanging, freezing, and restarting on its own—issues that never existed prior to the update.

The service centre issued a job card under Condition No. 1 (Estimate/Approval pending). However, because the device is just past its 3-year mark, they are holding firm on an out-of-warranty repair charge of ₹40,000 to replace both the display and the motherboard (PBA).

Since the diagnostic check officially cleared the device of any user negligence or physical damage, it is incredibly difficult to accept a ₹40,000 out-of-pocket expense for a total system degradation triggered entirely by an official manufacturer update.

Has anyone here successfully appealed an out-of-warranty charge for an update-linked line and motherboard processor issue when the phone's immaculate physical condition is officially documented? Would filing a grievance with the National Consumer Helpline (1915) be the most effective next step?

I would highly appreciate any constructive guidance or shared experiences. Thank you!

Samsung wants me to pay ₹40,000 for a display issue that appeared after a software update. My complaint was closed when I refused.

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share my experience with Samsung and hear whether anyone else has faced something similar.

I own a Samsung flagship phone. After installing an official Samsung software update, my phone developed a serious display issue. From my perspective, the phone had not been dropped, physically damaged, or exposed to water before the issue appeared.

I took the phone to an authorized Samsung service centre expecting them to investigate the problem. Instead, I was told that the repair would cost approximately **₹40,000**.

What frustrated me the most wasn’t just the repair cost—it was the lack of a clear explanation.
I contacted Samsung Customer Support multiple times and escalated my case to higher authorities. Throughout the process, I kept asking one simple question:

**If Samsung believes I caused the damage, can they provide the technical evidence?**

And if they **don’t** believe I caused it, then **why should I pay ₹40,000** for the repair?

Unfortunately, I never received a direct answer to that question. Instead, I was repeatedly told to pay for the repair. When I refused because I believe I shouldn’t have to pay for a problem I did not cause, Samsung closed my complaint.

While researching this issue, I found many online discussions from Samsung users reporting green lines or display problems after software updates. I understand that every case is different, and similar reports alone do not prove the cause of my issue. However, seeing these discussions made me feel that my complaint deserved a more thorough investigation instead of being dismissed.

As a law student, I also find this concerning from a consumer-rights perspective. Whether a device is under warranty or not, I believe customers deserve a clear technical explanation when they are asked to pay such a significant amount for a repair.

I’m not posting this simply to criticize Samsung. I’m posting because I genuinely want to know:

Has anyone here experienced something similar after a Samsung software update?

If so, how did Samsung respond?

Were you able to get the issue resolved without paying the full repair cost?

If you’ve taken a similar matter to a Consumer Commission or another forum, what was your experience?

Thank you for reading. I would genuinely appreciate hearing about your experiences or any advice you may have.
