No offense to Annie…

So, I just finished my x-teenth re-listen of book 1, and I always laugh at the end.

For those who’ve heard it, you know that final bit on the audiobook is an ad for soundbooth’s full cast performances: in particular, they use the line “maybe they can get the legendary Annie Ellicott to play as Donut.”

I snicker every time I hear that because I just spent months holding back anxiety that they would cast anyone other than Jeff in the series. Why would I want someone else’s version?

Young Leif 8 love…

I’m rewatching the series, and I’ve gotten to Young Leif, and it’s such a beautiful bittersweet miniseries.

Ep 8 is so sad for me, though. Because I love his parents so much. They’re flawed and brilliant and kind and loving and ridiculous and strong, and I see all the things I love about Leif in them.

His mom is so wonderful, so willing to accept people as they present themselves, without judgement.

And his dad is driven to see the truth of things without any comfortable lies.

And it’s wonderfully tragic that, as their son, he hasn’t grown up enough to see them as adults yet. Which is only natural, of course, but I really, REALLY hope that we’ll eventually get to see our Leif go back and start to build adult relationships with them!

1x12 Paradox humor…

I’m doing my first full rewatch (I’ve gone back to watch selected episodes for clarification) and I just got to 1x12x, and I can’t stop laughing.

Matthew Cole’s mother-in-law and daughter-in-law just walked into his garage. This guy has no chance!

Harbingers 1x16

[Reposting because I originally put the wrong episode number in the title]

Well, how do you create the most dangerous people in the world?

You take two of the smartest people in the world, give them skills that no one can take away from them, and then let them realize that there is no one in the world else that they can trust; no one who won’t use them to further their own goals.

I’ve got so much still to process, I’ve only listened to the finale, but I’ve got to say this: I was expecting a bigger finale. Something flashy, dramatic, and explosive.

At first I was a little let down, honestly.

But I haven’t been able to stop chewing over it all afternoon, and I’ve come to the conclusion that I was wrong.

Because everything comes back to that first date. He advocated not for fixing the world right away, but instead playing the Machiavellian long game.

He’s exactly where he wants to be, literally and figuratively, because there’s no way in the world he doesn’t know the word for “me.”

Check out this series. It’s amazing.

Odoo ads vs Ars Paradixica

I’m not the only one who, when running across ads for Odoo, always thinks, for a split second, that they’re talking about ODAR from Ars Paradoxica, right?

FS26 Switch

I’ve just started playing… and I have to ask: what’s up with the really weird harvesting and seeding patterns of the hired workers. They seem to be working from the inside of the field outward, but take forever to line things up, work in weird directions, and skip what seems to be obvious turns.

Did the AI get dumber this game? (Which is really saying something, as the AI has never been the highlight of this series. I’ve been playing for almost a decade.)

Outlaw thoughts…

I’m half way through the audiobook…

A feared federal officer and her front desk security man already know not to fuck with Harry Dresden: it looks like the Librarians have already put out the word.

I’m at page 239 in my digital copy, and I’m so happy with what I’m reading. I just had to stop and write out what I think I’m finally seeing: Kaylin is finally marshaling her forces. The one of the two immortal races are finally bending to her will: The children of the Green are her cohort, her war band. The tower captains are following her lead. The mortal races respect her. The Dragons are as justifiably terrified of her as they should be.

Kaylin is the Master of Chaos, literally and figuratively. Shadow is wound around her very fingers. She is the true Master of Ravellon, and the current occupant has been thwarted by her at every turn.

Someday soon (and I’m not impatient, because I’m enjoying every book!) she will destroy the Outcast and reduce him to the very nothing he’s always truly been.

And Helen even already has her next tenant already waiting in the kitchen. :)

And you know what I’m really looking forward to most? The Human Caste-Court.

She’s the Chosen, the most powerful human, literally and figuratively, alive. And she’s going to eat them alive. Kick the bastard caste-lord out of his seat, and make every one of them regret ever being born.

Bring it, Michelle. I’ve been reading this series since book 3 came out, and can’t wait to see what you do next.
