Thinking about quitting after forced return to office

I’ve been working remotely for almost 2 years. The pay isn’t great, but I accepted that due to work-life balance. I save lots of money, sleep better, have more time for hobbies and exercise, and overall feel way more happier.

Now out of nowhere the company is forcing us back on-site 5 days a week, even though the job can easily be done remotely. What makes it worse is that people in other countries doing the exact same job for the same company are still allowed to work remotely.

No extra compensation either, plus a clean desk policy with no phones or headphones allowed. The whole thing just feels like micromanagement. Just thinking about commuting 1 hour every day, spending more money on clothes and food, and losing so much personal time already makes me miserable.

The problem is that my city doesn’t have many opportunities either, although I’d honestly be fine relocating to a bigger city for better pay and hybrid work.

But at the same time, the job market feels terrible right now, so quitting also feels risky.

Anyone else dealing with this?
