Update into my adulting journey: I have accidentally become a multiple glasses person.

I didn’t plan on owning multiple pairs of glasses but somehow I’ve ended up here.

As far as I remember, this whole thing started last year when a colleague recommended I try buying glasses online. My old frames were falling apart around the nose pads and I didn’t really feel like going through the usual in store glasses shopping experience again so I decided to give it a shot. Then a few months later I ordered sunglasses with prescription lenses because I got tired of switching between regular glasses and clip ons while driving.

Now somehow I own work glasses, going out glasses, comfort glasses and driving sunglasses. Honestly the dangerous part is how easy online ordering made it. Before this, glasses shopping for me was this whole exhausting trip involving awkward salesman interactions and mirrors. Now I just sit in bed comparing frames while watching Netflix. Also kind of reassuring that they allow returns and offer yearly warranties so when you feel extra and end up buying higher end lenses with coatings and all you are covered. I’ve already used that flexibility twice this year.

Is this how adulthood quietly happens?

New update on my dry eye journey

I recently ordered a couple of pairs because my extreme dry eyes have made me ridiculously sensitive to light, wind, air conditioning...basically existing outdoors at this point.

I used to buy glasses mostly based on how they looked but dry eye has completely changed what I pay attention to now. Lightweight frames, larger lenses, decent coverage around the eyes and coatings that don’t make my eyes feel more strained after a few hours all matter so much more than they used to.

That's why for the outdoor pair, I specifically went looking for a larger acetate frame with a deeper lens height and slightly wrapped shape instead of the super flat fashion frames I used to wear. I’ve noticed that when the frame sits closer to the face and has a wider fit, my eyes don’t get blasted by wind from the sides as badly. I avoided thin wire frames this time because they feel too exposed for me now especially on windy days. I also picked brown tinted lenses instead of gray because harsh white light has been bothering my eyes lately and warmer tones seem a little easier on me.

The second pair is more of an everyday pair for screens and errands. Its lightweight TR material, low bridge fit, adjustable nose pads and thinner temples because pressure around my ears and nose somehow becomes unbearable once my eyes are already irritated. I paid close attention to lens width and bridge measurements too which is something old me never would have cared about. Now I’m sitting there comparing 49-20 versus 52-18 like it’s a life decision.

Lens wise, I have only added anti-reflective coating and UV protection. I skipped anything super premium because dry eye already empties my wallet enough between preservative free drops, heated masks, gels, humidifiers, supplements and random products people swear by online.

Hoping these new pairs help a bit with glare and eye fatigue because lately even short errands have been uncomfortable. Funny how eye issues can turn buying glasses from something fun into a whole research project. Who else with severe dry eye finds themselves overthinking glasses in ways they never used to?
