Its electric.. well, sort of. But you can hire one.

You can now hire a Toyota Mirai at Palmerston north.

to quote the article:

  • Three hydrogen Mirais on fleet at Ezi Palmerston North Airport.
  • Special rental rate of $79 per day, 2-day/250km maximum.
  • You don't have to fill it to return... because you can't.

Ezi rental car business customers are now able to hire the hydrogen-powered Toyota Mirai from the brand's Palmerston North Airport fleet.

Heat pump Hot water Cylinders

Just wondering how people have found heat pump hot water cylinders, both in terms of power savings, and also in reliability and maintenance?

Any issues with noise?

I'm in Auckland so subzero outside temps shouldn't be an issue.

Considering converting from indoor low pressure 180L cylinder to a heat pump system when we get around to doing some Reno work, and saw that there are 180L Midea heat pump units at a price thats not horrendously higher than a normal mains pressure cylinder.

A couple more heat pump questions

I posted a while back about a multi-split system I'd been quoted, but we've now decided partially due to feedback from here, and partially due to price to go for two seperate heat pumps, which eliminates the outdoor unit going on the roof, and condensate pumps. Means we dont have a heatpump in the spare bedroom/office, but we can live with the panel heaters for the few nights a year we have guests that coincide with really cold weather.

Sizing wise, they've come back with a smaller unit in the lounge (4.2kw Cooling/5 kW heating), its two sizes smaller than the existing 14yo unit (6/6.8kW IIRC) , and one size smaller than the indoor unit they quoted as part of the multi-split setup (5/6kw). Should I be pushing back for a bigger unit?

Anyway, the new design mean both outdoor units are going outside on the ground, and the installers are planning to use polyslabs ie (https://www.goactive.nz/products/psac-med-poly-slab-465-x-885-x-51mm). Apart from being ugly, is there anything about these that I need to know?

Am I better off building my own plinth for it, ie pouring a concrete slab, or I've seen what looks like a large paving slab (https://www.bunnings.co.nz/weststone-800-x-400-x-40mm-grey-contemp-paver\_p0319627) on a bed of gravel/stones. Apart from cosmetics, is there any real benefit to doing that? For one its not so important looks wise, its going on the ground between the fence and the deck/path down the side of the house, so I may put up a trellis screen to hide it, but the other one is going to end up on what is currently the path up the other side of the house, so I can't box it in without almost completely obstructing the path if i leave enough clearance for proper airflow.

ANZ Good Energy Loan Documentation

Just wondering how picky ANZ is with the quotes for the good energy home loan. We're about to refinace and move back to ANZ and i'd like to get a few things onto the 1% good energy loan when we do.

I'm about to get some stuff quoted, new heat pumps, ev charger install, etc, and its going to require a switchboard upgrade, and i want to get a few extra powerpoints and security camera and data wiring etc done.

Are ANZ going to expect things to be itemised and exclude some of these things, or are they likely to just check that quote includes several qualifying items and accept the whole quote?

The big one is are they going to accept that the switchboard upgrade is part of the EV charger/Heatpump upgrade/install costs? That will be most of the Electricians quote.

Tradie Recommendations/Warnings West Auckland

Hi r/auckland.

We've got a house in West Auckland that needs some reno work.

Just wondering if the hive-mind can recommend any or warn us about any dodgy tradies

We need a roofing crowd for a full roof replacement (longrun steel)

A Sparky for a switchboard upgrade and EV charger install plus a couple of extra sockets and cables for security cameras.

And a builder for various small jobs, soffitts repaired, piles checked and maybe jacked and packed, and if budget allow we'll make a start with replacing windows with double glazing.

Hit me with the wisdom please peeps.
