Cutting X-Dome 1+ included Guy Line

So I’ve got the newer X-Dome 1+ and I am off for my first trip with it tomorrow. The tent has the included length of guy line, which comes uncut.

What lengths would you recommend cutting it to, and where is best to use it?

Not expecting bad weather, but this is a test run for a long trip very soon!

Multi Day Trip Planning

Ok, I’ve just upgraded to a paid sub so I can use multi-day trip planning. I’ve got a 3 month trip coming up, and I’m cycling for around 90 days. Two instant questions/ issues:

  1. Max number of nights seems to be 70 with no way to change this? Or am I daft? Quite pointless restriction imo 🤷‍♂️

  2. The app automatically breaks my 4000km trip into chunks based on the days I tell it I am alloying. So it’s created 70 short days. Not all of these are very well designed, so I edit them. As I extend the days it doesn’t change the following day…so eventually the planned days are getting stupidly short, and will eventually overlap. But I can’t see any way to just delete a day?

Updates to route won’t sync to other devices

I’ve been planning a cross-Europe 4000km bike ride for charity, and working on the route for weeks. Last night I made some major changes on my PC - took me several hours.

This morning I look at my iPhone and the route is unchanged - my massive changes are not there. Same on my iPad. Same account logged in on all, of course.

*Weirdly, looks like the distance and elevation shown ARE from my updated route* 🤷‍♂️

Logged out and logged in again, no change. It’s been 12 hours since I made the amendments so plenty of time to sync.

I was literally going to pay for premium today, but if this is going to be an issue it will ruin my entire planning process, and I’m not willing to pay and hope for the best…

I leave in two weeks for 2 months on the road…at which point I will no longer have my laptop with me.

Help 😅

▲ 11 r/bicycletouring+1 crossposts

I’m about to head off for a cross-Europe adventure - and I am trying to find a good set of lights, that I can use year-round, that work around my luggage. SO many lights mount from seatposts at the rear or garmin/ handlebars at the front, but these are non options if you are using a bar bag or seatpost/ racktop bag.

My setup is small-ish gravel panniers front and rear, roll bag on the bars, seatpack at the rear on the post, and a rear racktop roll bag.

I have Old Man Mountain Divide racks front and rear, which do have holes drilled in the rack tops for mounting options. I’ve also got bosses on the fork outside legs that could work, but quite low down.

Lights-wise I want usb-c rechargeable lights (not going to be used daily, just if my days overrun) with decent power (ideally 1000 lumens plus, as if I need them I may well be in remote areas) and decent runtimes on low settings. Things like the Knog Blinder 1400 appeal, and I’d also consider a radar at the rear, but that’s not essential.

Yes, that’s the bike but I don’t have a fully loaded image right now 😆

This summer I’m going to ride 4000km across Europe, unsupported, on my fully restored (right back to metal!) and WILD modified 1990 Explosif! Ever seen a splatter Explosif with wireless shifting, 29” wheels and discs?

Don’t worry - you get to meet its fully original, restored brother in this video too - the bike that 36 years ago changed my life 💜

I’m doing this for to raise funds for men’s mental health and suicide prevention awareness organisation Men’s Minds Matter. I talk about how that relates to me here a little too - and I’d love to have your support, as this is the biggest adventure of my life!
