Why so many internal only postings? I expected more openings to the public (interior).

I’ve been waiting for the firestorm of hiring to begin at my old agency, and it looks like it’s begun but with mostly internal only positions not open to former Feds.

I’m surprised by this. Are they first doing promotions and then opening up lower jobs to the public? I see many jobs at my old org that would do well as public postings but are internal only and I’m surprised they made that decision. Folks will just be burdened with double work as their old jobs are left vacant. Maybe that’s by design so they can finally get paid for doing the work of their old bosses?

Or is it an easier hiring pathway to make things internal only? Or some other policy?

Bozeman or Missoula? 2 adults, 2 kids.

Considering a move from a Denver to either of these cities. Bozeman would be better for my work, at least for a year and then I could go to Missoula.

Considering renting my home out for $3k/mo and renting something in Bozeman. But there are risks involved.

My job will pay $100k/yr. And my wife will have to look for a new one. We’re leaving behind jobs of 70k each in our old town ($140k/yr household). I’m likely to get a new job in my current city for $100-135k/yr if I stay on the hunt (I was DOGEd and clawing back career wise).

My questions though are how much will I actually struggle in Bozeman on a single $100k/yr salary supporting a stay at home mom and two tiny kids? I’ve read posts that compare it to SF or NYC but that seems like hyperbole. It doesn’t look that much worse than Denver based on current Zillow prices.

Really interested in the lifestyle up there. Have worked in the state a ton and love it. Want to live somewhere with real nature and water and fish. Denver is too dry for me.

Junipers and grasses didn’t take this year. Help ID the issue.

I bought these dwarf grasses from O’Tooles and the creeping junipers from Home Depot this spring. Cost a considerable amount of money.

The lady at O’Toole’s remarked that they were desperate to get planted, as they looked largely like this when I bought them but I was told they’d green up.

The juniper was very root bound and looked it it’s been in a tiny pot for a decade.

I ensured they were well watered since March. But each plant has just declined. This was my first big landscaping project and I’m saddened that it failed.

Can anyone suggest steps to replace these? If they’re salvageable, how can I tell?

WTB: ~20sq ft of Schluter Ditra

Need a little bit for my project but don’t want to buy another whole roll. Anyone have a scrap leftover that they want to get put to use vs tossed?
