Traditional business owners who moved online: what was your biggest challenge in the beginning?

We have been in the Lucknow chikankari business for years, mostly working offline and supplying resellers/boutiques.

Recently I’ve been trying to build an online presence and started posting our products on Instagram.
The difficult part is that online growth feels completely different from offline business. In offline, people can touch the fabric, see the handwork, and trust comes naturally. Online, it feels like you’re starting from zero.

For those who successfully moved a traditional business online:

* Did product photos or reels perform better?
* How long did it take before you started getting inquiries organically?
* Any mistakes you’d avoid if starting again?

Would appreciate advice from people who’ve gone through this transition.

Looking to Connect with International Buyers for Handcrafted Chikankari & Ethnic Wear

Hi everyone,

I work directly with artisans in Lucknow and deal in handcrafted Chikankari suits, sarees, lehengas, and ethnic wear. Most of our work currently goes to boutiques and resellers within India, but I’m interested in connecting with international buyers and exploring export opportunities.

For those already exporting handcrafted textiles or ethnic fashion, what has been the most effective way to find genuine overseas buyers and build long-term relationships?

I’d appreciate any advice, platforms, or insights from your experience. Thanks!

I am sharing some of the work here!

We work directly with Lucknow chikankari artisans and supply boutiques/resellers. Looking for feedback on scaling this business.

We are a Lucknow-based manufacturer working directly with artisans on handcrafted chikankari suits, sarees and lehengas. Most of our work currently goes to resellers and boutiques.

We recently started exploring direct online sales and are building a catalogue. I’d love feedback from business owners on:

• Finding boutique buyers
• Scaling wholesale operations
• Selling handcrafted products online

Happy to answer questions about chikankari production, sourcing and pricing as well.

Hand embroidered Lucknow pieces we usually make for resellers

We work directly with Lucknow artisans creating handcrafted chikankari and couture ethnicwear pieces.

Most of our work usually goes to resellers and boutiques, but we’ve started offering selected articles directly as well.

Premium fabrics, detailed handwork, custom colors, and boutique-level finishing — without inflated middleman pricing.

Bridal, festive, sarees, lehngas, coord sets & custom sourcing available.

DM if you’re looking for genuine handcrafted pieces or sourcing in bulk

How do I connect with boutique owners & couture buyers for premium handcrafted Chikankari?

Hey everyone,
I’m from Lucknow and currently expanding my family’s premium chikankari business. We work directly with artisans and manufacture handcrafted pieces including kurtis, suits, sarees, lehengas, and heavier chikankari + zardozi work.
Right now I’m focusing more on B2B/wholesale and custom production rather than regular retail. We’re developing newer designs, maintaining better finishing, and since we manufacture directly, the pricing stays much more competitive compared to most retail markets.
I’m trying to understand the best way to connect with:
Boutique owners
Multi-designer stores
Couture labels
Instagram resellers
Export buyers
Stylists/personal shoppers
For people already in fashion/ethnic wear manufacturing — how did you find your first serious buyers?
