How much should I be eating?
Hello!
For reference I am a 23, 5'10.5, 210lb male 27% bodyfat. I have been dieting while mixing in basic calisthenics exercises to try and drop weight and keep muscle. My journey started just 2-3 months ago when I was 230lbs (some more months before that I was around 250lbs, I guess i just lost that weight naturally through lifestyle changes, meaning that within the last 8 or 9 months I have lost around 45lbs. At the moment I am dieting at around 1600 calories a day, eating high protein, high veggie, high fruit while doing basic calisthenics every other day to try and retain as much muscle as I can while in such an aggressive caloric deficit.
My ideal body goal is to be between 15-20% bodyfat (depending on how I look) and be down to around 170-180lbs. Feel free to tell me if this is not a healthy goal, im not knowledgeable on the subject i just know that 15-20% bodyfat is considered healthy and for someone my height 170lbs is considered the higher end of healthy weight. The main important thing to me is that eventually I want to be below 200lbs and I don't want to have zero muscle.
My current plan to achieve this is too continue my 1600 calorie a day diet until I get to around 200lbs then I want start heavily increasing the intensity of my workouts too support muscle growth while still cutting fat.
So my question is how much should I plan to increase my caloric intake by to support this? Once I start working out I'm aware I will have to eat a lot more in order for muscle to actually grow but I also know that I'll still have a lot of fat reserves so I can afford to still eat a lower amount. And since I want to at this phase start to grow muscle while still cutting fat I most likely intend to eat either below or just around my bmr. What would be the healthiest and wisest amount of calories to eat?
Is it possible to bulk up while cutting weight?
Or would it instead be better to continue to diet until I'm at 170lbs and attempt to bulk up then?
Any and all advice would be very helpful! Also feel free to let me know if I need to change anything about my current routine if I'm not accounting for any health risks.
