So much pain and suffering

I got my big nuts off. If you know, you know what an ordeal that is. No impact drivers allowed. I’m disassembling until I find the source of a funny noise coming from everywhere and nowhere. After replacing the oil pump and a lot of clutch and primary parts the noise only got worse. So the lump is back on the bench for more surgery. Well, right now it’s in the floor.

No cruise control 2015 voyager

Hey guys. I own a 2015 Kawasaki Vulcan Voyager with 55,000 miles. It runs great but the cruise control won’t set. On a related note, my gear indicator on the dash is pretty consistently showing 5th gear when I’m in 6th gear. So I think they are related. I’m a pretty capable mechanic and I’ve done my own clutch and fork seal rebuilds. The CC will kick off if the rider touches the brake or the clutch. I have already ruled out the front and rear brake switches. Brake lights work normally. I can handle testing the clutch switch. Should I look for an issue inside the engine case with the gear selector or a related sensor? What am I looking for? I’m planning a clutch pack replacement so while I’m in there…

What is this noise?

I’m losing my mind. The motorcycle makes a metal on metal “kssssssssuksa” sound. It makes this noise 100% of the time in any gear and in neutral with the clutch in or the clutch out. Using a stethoscope I cannot locate the source. It’s coming from every part of the engine LOL. I’m serious that I cannot tell if the sound is coming from the heads or the crank or the transmission. I’m a home mechanic and so far I have replaced the primary chain, the clutch pack, and a bearing that was suspected between the inner and outer clutch assembly. Over on the other side of the engine I have replaced the oil pump and the oil pump drive gear. It’s a worm drive and I suspected it was the problem because the timing of this sound seems to be too slow to be a valve or rocker. Any considered guesses is appreciated. I’ll split the case if I have to but dang… I don’t want to. I know it’s a little haphazard to run the engine with the primary cover off but I was wondering if a kink in the primary chain was rubbing against the engine case. Well, no… that wasn’t it either. Help.
