Question to seniors - Is CIC worth it if i look only from placement perspective?

So is it really worth it if I want a job at the end of 4 years - with my only other option being B.Tech from a tier-3 college. and if placements are off campus only how do people actually get placed - do students receive any kind of help or support through institution or alumnis if needed or are completely on their own?

PSIT or CIC DU or HBTU BS-MS - pls answer and no this is not a ragebait. Read body

My main concern is placement. CIC doesn't has its placement cell HBTU BSMS's first batch hasn' passed out yet and the placements for MSc students are very poor. So should i consider PSIT over these as it atleast has its own dedicated placement cell and even though bad but still provides the conventional degree and opportunity for placements

Can i change my category in HBTU counselling?

I applied for JEE as a General candidate as i did not have my EWS certificate at that time.. I have my EWS certificate now... is it possible to apply in HBTU counselling as EWS candidate or they explicitly consider only the category mentioned in JEE scorecard?

Saw the post about Sahil Siddiqui and it just aggravated me...a lot of people in the comments were asking how is he out and case details...so i did a deep dive

here is all the details i could find regarding his case and yes i used chatgpt to compile all this

Based on the six court orders and the official case records, here is a comprehensive summary of the case State of U.P. vs. Vikas Porwal & Sahil Siddiqui.

1. Case Overview

The case began with an FIR (No. 518/2024) filed at the Kalyanpur Police Station. The prosecution alleges that the two defendants—both well-known teachers in the Kanpur coaching hub—conspired to drug and sexually assault a minor student.

Case Number: Sessions Case 1809/2024 (CNR: UPKN010131762024)

  • Court: Additional Special Court (POCSO Act), Kanpur Nagar.
  • Primary Defendants: Vikas Porwal (Chemistry Teacher) and Sahil Siddiqui (Biology Teacher).
  • Key Charges: * IPC/BNSS: Section 376(2)(n) (Repeated rape), Section 328 (Drugging/Poisoning), Section 344 (Wrongful confinement), and Section 506 (Criminal intimidation).
    • POCSO Act: Sections 3/4 and 5L/6 (Aggravated penetrative sexual assault on a minor).

2. The Allegations

The prosecution alleges that the victim, a minor student, was drugged (via a cold drink/alcohol) and subjected to repeated sexual exploitation by the defendants. She claimed to have been held captive in an apartment for several months. The defense, however, argues this is a fabricated "revenge case" orchestrated by a business rival (Ashish Srivastava) after the teachers left his coaching institute to join a competitor.

3. Timeline of Legal Battles (2025)

The first half of 2025 was defined by the defendants’ attempts to get the case dismissed before trial:

  • April 3: Vikas Porwal challenged his arrest, claiming it was "illegal" because he wasn't properly informed of the grounds. The court rejected this, noting his family was informed and the arrest followed procedure.
  • May 2: Sahil Siddiqui filed for Discharge, claiming there was no real evidence and citing business rivalry. The court rejected this, stating that the victim's testimony was sufficient to proceed to trial.
  • June 10: Vikas Porwal also filed for Discharge, presenting academic records and apartment entry logs to prove his innocence. The court rejected this, ruling that these were "matters of trial" and could not be used to drop charges early.
  • July 9: In a final attempt, Sahil challenged the victim's age, claiming she was an adult. The court rejected this, prioritizing her CBSE 10th Grade Certificate, which proved she was a minor.

The trial was stalled for nearly seven months as the court heard various "Pre-Trial Applications." The Judge, Rashmi Singh-I, eventually overruled all of them

4. Current Status (as of May 2026)

  • Trial Phase: The case is currently in the "Rest Evidence" stage. This means the "pre-trial" arguments are over, and the court is now actively hearing witness testimonies and examining physical/digital evidence.
  • The case has moved from the "Argument" phase into the "Evidence" phase, which is why the frequent multi-page public "Orders" have stopped.
  • Custody: While the trial court rejected bail, the defendants’ applications were moved to the High Court. Official trial records still list the case as pending with frequent hearings.
  • Recent Activity: The case was transferred to a new judge (Court 63) in April 2026. The next hearing is scheduled for June 9, 2026.

5. Summary of Court’s Stance

Throughout these orders, the court has maintained that:

  1. Victim’s Testimony is Central: Under POCSO law, the victim's statement is given high weight, and minor contradictions do not justify dismissing the case early.
  2. Investigation Flaws: Even if the police failed to collect certain records (like social media or bike logs), the accused cannot be set free solely because of a "poor investigation" before the trial.
  3. Strict Conduct: The judge has issued warnings to the defense for using "piecemeal" applications to stall the framing of charges, emphasizing the need for a speedy trial in POCSO matters.

This is all that was available publically (last public court order 09/07/25- the framing of charges which is the next step is being going on since then and no other court orders have been public since then......

Summary of Final Court Logic (upto 9/7/2025)

The court's consistent message has been: "A trial is necessary." The judge has ruled that while the defense has many "interesting" theories about business rivalry and social media, these cannot be used to kill the case early. They must be proven in the witness box through cross-examination.

5. Why Sahil is Teaching (The Bail Situation)

While the Trial Court rejected bail multiple times, it is highly likely but possible that the defendants secured Bail from the Allahabad High Court.

If Sahil Siddiqui is currently teaching in person, it is almost certain that he secured Regular Bail from the Allahabad High Court, which has the authority to overrule the local Kanpur Special Court's decision to keep him in jail.

In the Indian legal system, it is very common for a trial court to refuse bail (especially in POCSO cases) while a higher court grants it. Here is exactly how this happens:

1. The High Court's "Fresh Look"

The court orders from July 2025 explicitly mention that Sahil's bail application was already pending at the High Court. While the local judge in Kanpur was focused on the severity of the victim's statement, a High Court judge looks at broader factors:

  • The "Business Rivalry" Argument: If the High Court found the defense's evidence of a ₹95 Lakh dispute with Ashish Srivastava compelling, they may have granted bail on the grounds that the case might be a malicious prosecution.
  • Duration of Stay: Sahil was arrested on November 9, 2024. If the trial (the "Evidence" stage) was moving slowly, the High Court might have granted bail because an accused cannot be kept in jail indefinitely without a conviction.

2. Why he can still teach

Under the law, "Innocent until proven guilty" applies even in POCSO cases.

  • No Bar on Employment: Unless the High Court specifically added a bail condition saying "The accused shall not teach," Sahil is legally allowed to continue his profession.
  • Bail Conditions: Typically, his bail would require him to:
    • Stay away from the victim and her family.
    • Not influence any witnesses.
    • Attend every court hearing in Kanpur (like the upcoming hearing on June 9, 2026).

I was unable to find high court records for this case so the above fact cannot be confirmed but is most likely and other than this just to reiterate these all updates are upto 9/7/25 during the pre trial phase and confirm that he has not been proven guilty till now by any public records and case is still actively going

Final "2 Cents"

The system in this case is working exactly as intended—slowly, and with a heavy emphasis on paperwork—but it has successfully resisted multiple attempts to kill the case before the evidence could be heard. The fact that the defendants are out on bail suggests they have a strong legal team that navigated the High Court successfully, but the Trial Court's refusal to drop the charges shows that the core allegations are being taken very seriously.
