Are you an artist with an idea you wish someone would write?

When I turn one of my ideas into a script, I hire an artist. I insist they be 50% owners and credited as co-creators, but that's more of a gesture. Real compensation is paying a page rate. Unfortunately I can only cover one project at a time out of pocket.

I can't ask an artist to work without pay. What I can do is offer to work without pay myself.

So here's my crazy idea:

  • Step 1: You, an artist but not so much a writer, DM me about an idea you wish someone would write into a script. If it feels like a good match, I'll reach out to discuss and offer to write it up.

  • Step 2: I send you a completed script. You own the script. You own the characters and the story. If you don't like the script, your ideas are still yours. I won't attempt to make it with another artist. I move on from ideas all the time and it's not a problem.

  • Step 3: If you decide to illustrate the script, credits would be Created by us. Story by you. Written by me. Art by you. IP ownership could be split equitably but you would have sole control. You could self-publish, promote it to publishers -- do whatever you like. I can incorporate whatever you think would be fair into an agreement in advance if something looks promising.

Proposals can be as vague or specific as you like.

If you want to see some of my work, digital copies of my first two published comics are free to read on my Gumroad. That's builtinadaycomic [dot] gumroad [dot] com. (I'd suggest starting with Ash.)

About me:

I am/have been a musician, lawyer, courtroom advocate, policy advocate, music teacher, Philadelphian, NYC bike messenger, and atheist/naturalist who doesn't hate religion and loves reading the Torah/Old Testament. I am endlessly fascinated sci-fi, history, law, pop-science (because real science is hard), all kinds of music, and of course comics. My writing usually skews a bit dark. I tend to be more interested in violence as a mundane aspect of the human condition than something flashy, but I wouldn't mind stepping outside of that comfort zone for a great story.

There is a theoretical point where two parallel lines converge, and it's in West Philly.

[WTB] PILOT Iroshizuku Tsukushi

I imagine anyone who still has some of this doesn't want to sell it, but I guess there's no harm in trying.

If you have an old bottle, or half bottle or whatever, please reach out if you'd be happy to part with it.

Graceful Ghost Rag, embellishments by Marc-André Hamelin

For the vast majority of redditors who cannot help with this, definitely still check out this gorgeous piece of music!

I've been learning the Graceful Ghost Rag and I'm hoping someone can help me out.

Hamelin's performance includes some embellishments between 2:09 and 2:20 of this recording:

https://youtu.be/QJ6CQ2jmGN0?si=MerIWX76bTUCqrDl

The embellishments are only on the repeat. First time through he plays it as written.

I'm having a hard time transcribing (i.e., stealing) these embellishments and I'm hoping against hope there's someone on this sub with golden ears who wouldn't mind scratching it out on manuscript paper. If so I could send you or your favorite charity $20 for your troubles.

(r/classicalpiano Mods: I hope one of William Bolcom's "Classical Rags", as he described them, is an acceptable subject for posting here. Apologies if it is not.)
