The box office drop in week 2 for Mandalorian and Grogu highlights what I think is wrong with the current Hollywood trends

Specifically, how quickly things come to home media/streaming and how short they stay in theaters.

The people who are going to go see it, the diehards of either Star Wars itself or the show in particular are going to be there opening weekend because thry want to see it. They want to discuss it.

But that other subset of people who want to watch it but aren't as invested? They can wait about a month and watch it from their couch.

There was almost a full calender year from opening night and coming to VHS/DVD for Episode One(May 19, 1999/Apr 4, 2000). It was in theaters for 39 weeks.

Even casual interest people weren't going to wait for a year to watch it.

Now there is such a push for content on streaming services movies aren't allowed to breath. Not even enough time for word of mouth to be relevant. People know they can wait.

This isn't just a Disney problem or a Star Wars problem. It is a problem for any studio that has a streaming service attached.

Perrin Fertha is a tragic character that I wish was explored more

When just watching him in Andor or in stories he is portrayed as just a rich party boy who loves canoodling with the empire.

Then you read his back story. And about his inner thoughts, you realize he hates the Empire as much as his wife Mon Mothma, he just doesn't have any fight in him anymore. He is a defeated man. His entire personality is just escapism for the horrors around him.

The only time this really comes out on screen is the speech in Andor s2 at his daughters wedding, where he tells them basically they have to find their own light in the darkness. One of the few times he truly lets his guard down.

Then you find out there was a deleted scene in S2 where he tells Mothma that he has always known about her part in the Rebellion, gets questioned routinely, and has been lying to the Empire for her for years, letting her know he would have stood by her and helped her if she had just asked and trusted him.

It is a point of view we don't really get in Star Wars much. We have the heroes and the villains, and the cogs in the machine. We rarely see just a citizen going through the motions because they are emotionally defeated and just want an escape.

Also one of the few times we see Mon Mothma misstep. The normally measured and tactical Senator missing an ally that actually adored her, sitting right next to her, and pushing him away along with her daughter.

It is one of those characters that won't get their own novel or comic but are critical in a way to the lore. And I kind of wish we had got more of him and Mon, although I understand why with how loaded Andor s2 was.
