What Actually Helped Me Improve as a Runner

Been running consistently for about a year now and honestly the biggest thing that changed for me wasn’t some crazy workout plan it was just learning how to stay consistent without burning out.

At first I was doing way too much. Running hard every session, comparing myself to people online, getting frustrated when my pace sucked. What actually helped was slowing down and treating easy runs like easy runs. Once I stopped trying to “prove” myself every workout, I improved way faster.

A few things that helped me a lot:

  • Running more often instead of trying to destroy myself 2x a week
  • Sleeping properly (seriously underrated)
  • Tracking how I actually felt after runs, not just pace
  • Doing strength work for legs/core 2-3 times a week
  • Accepting that some runs will feel terrible for no reason

One random thing that also helped me stay on track was using a simple habit app called Hoply just to log runs and keep streaks going. Nothing fancy, but seeing consistency visually kept me motivated on days I didn’t want to go out.

Curious what changed things most for you guys? Was it mileage, shoes, nutrition, mindset, etc?

Give me feedback

Hey

I recently launched my iOS app called Hoply Run and I’m looking for a few people willing to test it and give honest feedback.

The goal of the app is to make running feel more engaging, motivating, and fun instead of just tracking miles and make a difference in peoples life. I’m still actively improving it, so even small feedback helps a ton.

Some things I’d especially love feedback on:

  • onboarding experience
  • UI/UX
  • bugs/crashes
  • motivation/features
  • what feels confusing or unnecessary

If you test it, feel free to comment here or DM me you can also leave a comment in the app give me your thoughts good or bad.

Thank you
