Space Marines?

I'm thinking out loud.

You could play a game of all Space Marines. Still on a hex map, but it's a war zone rather than a region.

Maybe groups of xeno 'myths' grouped by type. Protect the Imperium, seek out the enemy, honour the emperor.

The combat gambits could encompass ranged AND melee type manoeuvres because its abstracted to just the right amount.

Non-Mythic game. Using Gambits?

I really like Gambits and I want to port them over into other Odd games.

I'm thinking, would it work to say; individual rather than group attacks. Roll your attack as normal and if you score 6 or over (to make d6 weapons a bit better) you can also do one gambit as well.

I'm not sure whether the target should get a save...

Thoughts on this overall?

PCs talking is my favourite AND least favourite thing!

My favourite thing in RPGs is when the players (especially new players) are in a genuine quandary over what to do in a situation.

Some tricky moral or tactical position they've organically found themselves in, they have all the relevant info and they're working out what to do.

I love being in it as a player, and I love watching it as a GM (or in APs).

But I fucking hate it when the PCs are talking in-character, completely purposelessly about nothing that matters. Just incidental filler or a weird mix or chit-chat and "acting" that doesn't go anywhere. It's usually either because the GM had dropped them into a situation with no conflict or obstacle to resolve, or no clear time pressure to move forward, or the PCs don't know what to do.

Just get on with it!

And GMs, if they're floundering, either remind them of their overarching goals, or point out the obstacle (cuz maybe they missed it), or show the time pressure!

Anyway, to end on a positive note, my favourite moment recently was when my PCs realised they could short-cut a problem they had by killing a (chaotic-neutral type) Ettin shepherd in his sleep. It really stressed them out and they still feel guilty about it now. It was great!

How do YOU end campaigns?

Just that? With OSR being less of a planned story or finale, what do you do?

Do you plan a set number of sessions, or a level, or amount of gold, or a particular outcome?

What time was it on?

The very first episode I ever saw was Bodyswap. Confusing because two of the characters are swapped around, but anyway...

It was on BBC2 in 1989, but what time was it on? I thought it was 9pm - 9.30pm, but looking back I'm surprised my parents let me stay up that late.

Man...

I've never been to this sub before. I'm sure you get pointless posts like this all the time.

I'm rewatching s1 for the first time since it came out. I loved it then and I love it now. I'm just on ep 2. It's still absolutely brilliant.

It's the kind of show that takes television to the level of cinema. In a different way though. The best of cinema is very visual. Cinematography combines into the story. Mixes with it.

The best T.V is more character driven. Slower. S1 is just another level. Like The Wire or Sopranos.

I wouldn't change a single thing about it. I'm glad I existed at the same time as it.

With Rogue One: the Andor Cut coming out, it makes me wish we'd also got a 2-season Gilroy-style Jyn Erso show

I know we roughly know her backstory. But it would have been cool to watch 24 episodes of her adventures prior to getting arrested.

Working for Saw for a few years, doing her own stuff. Almost a reflection of Cassian, starting off doing political terrorism, and getting jaded with it and becoming more like Skeen etc, just a solo operator / criminal.

I'm just being greedy.

Advice on escape scenarios.

I really want to run some horror scenarios where the object isn't to investigate and discover the terrible truth, it's just to get out alive.

I'm not looking for published scenarios for that, although that's welcome. I'm more looking for advice on how to run such scenarios.
