Belly skin hurts to touch (not incision/scar) 2 weeks post op?

Wondering if anyone else experienced this and maybe has suggestions to help.

I’m 2 weeks out from my c-section. My incision is actually quite low below my bikini line (eventually the question I ask will be about how to use silicone patches and manage hair growth,’ it’s that low). I’ve had some tingling and pulling sensations on the actual incision, but overall so far it doesn’t really bother me.

However I’ve found that the skin on my abdomen, about 4-6 inches above my incision, feels very tender to touch. Kind of like what sunburn feels like. If anything brushes against it, it hurts. It’s the actual skin hurting, not anything underneath (pressure doesn’t matter, just anything even grazing my belly bothers it).

Has anyone experienced this and, if so, is there anything that has helped it?

Size up in nipple or try a different bottle? How long should feeds take?

My girl is 12 days old. We are combo feeding but she’s 80% formula. We started her on the 2oz RTF Enfamil bottles with their disposable nipples, since that’s what they gave us in the hospital and we had enough to get through about the first week home and she handled those well.

Now that she’s consistently drinking 2-3oz in a feed we are still using RTF but in pigeon bottles with SS nipples. We’ve been finding that she falls asleep almost immediately when we give her the bottle and it was taking like 45-60min to get through a 2oz feed sometimes. (She also falls asleep almost instantly on the boob for the 20% BF and I’m basically just a pacifier for 20-40 minutes).

We did one feed with a size S nipple to see if that helped, and while she did still have to be nudged to stay awake, she finished 2oz in about 10-ish minutes.

Of course my overthinking FTM brain has me questioning if that’s too fast for her this early and if we should keep going with the bigger nipple or try a different bottle entirely. We tried one feed with Dr. Browns and she seemed to hate it, but the formula was cold so we can’t fully rule it out yet (we’ve learned she is a picky girl like her mom).

Would love if anyone has recommendations or experience with something similar and what has worked best for you.

Advice for the poopsplosions?

FTM, my LO is 1 week old. Every morning when she has a dirty diaper, I’m finding that as soon as I start changing her, she just keeps going.

After an unfortunate incident with our rug I have learned to keep the diaper in place and wait at least 4-5 minutes to be sure she’s gotten it all out, but I’m wondering if there are ways we can help her try and get it all before we start changing the diaper. Been trying some bicycle kicks but not sure if it’s really helping her.

Does anything help the gas pain?

I’m almost one week out from my c-section and the gas pain is really getting me down bad. I experienced a little bit in the couple of days right after, but since yesterday it’s been rough to the point I woke up writhing in pain.

I have tried gas-x and that helps temporarily for a couple of hours, but the package says no more than 4 in a day and it’s not giving long enough relief. I’m also trying to eat fiber and taking colace.

Is there anything else you have found can help? I’m literally doubled over in pain from it, I’ll try anything at this point.

Experiences or advice on combo feeding without pumping? (Day 1 mom struggling to decide!)

Just had my beautiful baby girl yesterday. I went into this pregnancy pretty sure I would be formula only from the start. However during our skin to skin time yesterday she latched really well and I loved the closeness I felt with her.

It has me wondering if I can make it work to combo feed without pumping (that is my hard limit). She’s been taking bottles since she had to spend some time in transition yesterday.

It’s important to me that she continues to take bottles/formula. But I’m also nervous about potential mastitis or other issues if I’m not pumping.

So would love any advice from someone who has done this - how do I even get started? Should I try to prioritize breast for a certain amount of time to get a supply going and then add back in bottles? Or try to alternate?

She’s here!

After a rather wild 9 months my girl is finally here, and all I can think is how on earth did this thing currently sleeping on my chest fit inside of me yesterday?? Somehow this girl who was around 50th percentile all pregnancy jumped up to 90th by 39 weeks, coming out at 8lbs 12oz and 19 inches.

I was originally scheduled for an early c-section due to her positioning - this girl was very comfy transverse for a while. She did go head down 4 days ago, but we decided to keep our cesarean plan because I was diagnosed with polyhydraminos at 38 weeks and the extra fluid was likely what allowed her to keep moving positions. We weren’t sure if she would go back transverse again.

C-section was quick. Took about 2 hours of prep but once we got into the OR it was so fast - spinal block was the weirdest feeling I’ve ever had, baby was out in literally minutes.

Because of the polyhydraminos, combined with the c-section not squeezing out as much as a vaginal birth can, she had more fluid to get out than normal. We finally got to spend some good skin-to-skin time together in the recovery room before they decided she needed some extra monitoring and oxygen, and we moved her to the transitional nursery for the day.

Not going to lie, emotions were all over the place. I was expecting to spend my day with my new baby and instead I was stuck in my room unable to get to her for 12 hours. But my amazing husband made sure she got lots of visits and brought constant updates to help me. But we were able to get some good rest at least, and around 3am this morning she was finally cleared to come to our room.

So I’m now sitting in heaven enjoying these amazing baby cuddles. This has been an absolutely wild 9 months that tested absolutely everything. I will not miss being pregnant, and I know I have some tough healing ahead of me these next couple of weeks. But my girl is here, she’s safe, and I’m just so insanely in love.

Thank you all who have provided guidance and comfort. I’ve really enjoyed this community for helping me keep at least a little of my sanity!

How would you spend your last few days before baby?

I’m scheduled for a c section next Friday (transverse girl is too comfortable), and I just had the realization that this is our last weekend without a baby.

Just made me curious, what would be your ideal last few days before the baby?

Nursery is ready, house is all set up. I think my plan will be to float in the pool and spend the rest of the time cuddling with my cats who have been the babies for the past 9 years.

How much RTF would you buy initially?

I’m probably overthinking this, but that’s what I do best!

Planning on starting on RTF, decided on Enfamil. I want to do 2oz bottles for overnight initially, bigger bottles for daytime and after she starts drinking more at once. Not worried about cost, just want to make nighttime feeds as simple as possible for at least the first couple of weeks.

Would love any recommendations on how many 2oz bottles would be ideal to go ahead and have on hand - shipping will take around a week and I can’t find them locally, so want to make sure we don’t end up in a pinch. But this is our first baby so I’m not sure realistically how long I should expect she’s drinking smaller amounts before we will want to just switch to the bigger bottles. And I also know there’s always a chance we may end up having to try a different formula so I don’t want huge stockpiles.

Hatch Baby vs Nanit Light + Sound - opinions?

We have found ourselves with both the Nanit Light + Sound as well as the Hatch Baby - the former came with our Nanit monitor and the later was a registry gift.

I’ve been doing a lot of googling to try and find which we might prefer, and wanted to see if anyone has experience with both and could share any opinions. It seems like the Nanit includes sound monitoring, but really we’d be using both more for the light (for night changes) and sound machine aspects.

Appreciate any input so we can decide which to keep, we’re still in the return window for the Hatch.

I’ve spent most of my pregnancy reading about actual pregnancy, but I’m realizing it’s time to start thinking about what to do when the baby is actually here. Would love any recommendations of books you have found helpful! This is our first baby (and the first on both sides of our family) so really going in blind other than some babysitting experience 20 years ago!

FTM 32w4d.

Last week at our appointment baby had moved from breech to transverse. I kind of figured she had because I could really feel her movement on either side of my belly. Her movements have been pretty constant and strong.

Yesterday I noticed that I was feeling more pressure in my lower belly (including just feeling heavier there, I guess is the best way to describe it). Since then movements have been slower and less strong. I’ve been counting and she is definitely moving (reached 10 counts in about 25 min), but they’re definitely less intense.

I’m wondering if it’s possible she has shifted head down and that’s why the movements have felt a little different? Has anyone experienced this? I’m keeping an eye on things for another hour and may end up going in to get checked out for my own peace of mind, but was curious.
