What do you think is more impressive?

When a fighter wins by absolutely dominating their opponent to the point that they look untouchable or o fighters going to absolute war and one of them has to dig incredibly deep to be able to win it?

Should I stop smiling so much during sparring?

I've been training mma for a little over half a year and I absolutely love it. I train around 5 times a week and just do plain mma classes and although right now I'm very very new to the sport I'm excited to keep learning more.

The problem is maybe I'm having a little too much fun. Whenever I spar I'm always smiling whether I'm winning or losing but I'm worried people misunderstand this as me being cocky or whatever. I've had times where people I'm sparring who started off pretty respectful have thrown massive overhands or generally strong punches in response to if I hit them with a cool combination and then look extra happy.

Is this a behaviour I need to change? I know it can make it seem like I'm really cocky when honestly I'm not. I understand that I'm less good than 95% of people in the class I just really enjoy sparring and will naturally get a little extra happy if I land something that I thought was cool or I'm pleased about. If I'm being honest it can like it ruin sessions for me if I'm getting punched too hard especially in the head as I then get headaches following the session so idk what I should do.

What and how should I train if I want a style like Merab?

I love Merab and have been training mma for 6 months and would love to go amateur one day. How can I train to have a style like him when I basically spam takedowns whether they work or not to tire out the opponent and win on control?

Does anyone else think Islam looks really tired and unwell right now?

I really want him to win. I truly do but I was watching some of the videos and he just looks really tired of low energy. I wonder if he's having a bad weight cut or something and I'm worried it'll be a Khamzat Strickland situation where the better fighter lost due to tiredness for example Khamzat looked really bad at his own way and press conference and this is what I'm thinking about Islam. I'm just really bored guys. I want to win. Please let this be false but I'm getting really bad things about this.

Sambo must be the most overrated martial art among MMA fans

Since the massive success of these Dagestani MMA fighters people seem to think of sambo as some super overpowered martial art but I don't think this is the case at all. These dagestani fighters dont train sambo anyway they train MMA with a wrestling focus and of course sambo gives benefits but it's basically like how a lot of american children grew up training karate maybe it gave them a few skills but all it really offers is a general comfort about fighting and that's all really

If you could cheat the system and become an absolute master at one martial art which would it be?

Specifically for MMA and no just picking MMA. I'm thinking like for example you could instantly become a God at jiu jitsu or Muay Thai or boxing. Which would you pick as your own preference and also which would be optimal to pick?

As a beginner (training around half a year) should I focus on sparring other beginners?

I'm wondering in terms of what is better for my growth and development as a fighter. Sometimes when I'm sparring people way better than me I kinda feel like I'm not learning anything since I'm getting pieced up no matter what I do.

Think about it this way. Right now I don't need to have a perfect double leg takedown I just need a good one and if I'm sparring another beginner the good one will work but if I'm sparring someone really good in my gym the good one won't work so I may as well have done a terrible one.

Is my logic here correct that I should spar people around my level to build good skills or will it instead give me bad habits since they'd let me get away with things better fighters would punish me for? Let me know

When sparring is it helpful to think in terms of who would've won the round?

I'm decently new to training and whenever sparring I try and think who would've won 10-9 if it was a round in the ufc or something. I'm wondering if this is a good idea since on one hand it could build like an awareness of point fighting and be a good way to see how well I did in the session but also I wonder if it's not helpful because it's not an accurate simulation of an actual fight (e.g. if I hit then more so I give myself the round in my head but in real life their shots were set up better so would've rocked me in real life way more but I didn't realise)

Which evening classes at my gym should I go to?

So my gym is structured like every morning there is an MMA session and then every evening there are two back to back sessions where one is MMA and one is more specific (BJJ (gi), wrestling and Muay Thai). Right now my life is a little hectic so I can't make a proper plan for which ones I'll go to and instead just try and make it to any morning session I can make and then one of the two afternoon sessions. As a general rule of thumb I make it to pretty much all morning sessions and maybe half the afternoon ones.

If my goal is to basically just get as good as MMA as possible should I go to the MMA sessions in the afternoon as well so I'm training it once or twice a day or should I instead go to the specialised session since I'm getting enough MMA foundation from the morning sessions?

Why is my wrestling so much worse when I spar pure wrestling than MMA?

I'm very new to training. I've been doing a mix of MMA and BJJ for just over half a year. My wrestling isn't amazing since my BJJ place is one of those places where we both start on the floor but I do train it in MMA classes quite a bit so it isn't awful?

Anyway basically my question is why am I so much more effective with wrestling when sparring MMA. Generally speaking my sparring game plan (at least when I fight people around my level) is to start on the feet but at some point take them down (usually double leg or trip from clinch) and then go ground and pound or rear naked choke whichever one presents itself to me.

This generally works quite well for me and I've had times in the last 6 months when I've actually thought oh I'm a pretty good wrestler. That is until we do like wrestling specific sparring when there's no striking and the goal is basically take them down and hold them down. I am beyond bad at this and have literally been asked by people far smaller than me (I'm around 77kg) if I know anything about fighting (not to make fun but as a real question).

Basically my question is why am I so much worse when it comes to just wrestling? I don't consider myself an amazing striker or even particularly good at anything yet but I feel like if I did pure Muay Thai or BJJ rounds I'd be pretty fine so it's literally just wrestling where I feel completely lost.

Pls let me know

Tl;dr - bad at MMA. Much, much worse at wrestling

Are you allowed to tap even if there's not a submission or choke?

Let's say the opponent gets you in mount and you don't want to be there. Can you tap to end the fight or does it need to be done as a specific reaction to a submission?

Hot take: women's MMA fights should have ring boys instead of ring girls

Think about it. What's the point of a women in a bikini showing us what round it is when the fighters are literally women in bikinis themselves. It makes far more sense for the women fights to have buff men in speedos or whatever holding the cards. I know it might sound silly but really think about it. Plus genuinely it could help boost WMMA viewership for other women.

Tommy "dumb" McMillen might be the biggest tryhard the sport has seen yet

Simple as that. This kid is 33 years old acting like a child talking about being an American gangster and making fun of veterans of the sport like Dustin Poirier or Alexander Volkanovski. His fighting style basically consists of being such a genuine bonehead that no matter what he can just keep blocking blows with his head while throwing absolute pillow hands. This record he got of most strikes thrown isn't cool. It's lame af. Montes isn't some elite chin kind of fighter all it means is bitch ass Tommy don't know how to throw a punch. Genuinely biggest pussy of the sport. Kids all bark and no bite trying to act tough with sunglasses and be the new Conor McGregor. Absolute fat shit. I hope he gets to fight Volk so Volk knocks him the fuck out and reminds this bitch ass motherfucker that there are levels to the game and just throwing punches and blocking with your face doesn't make you a badass, it makes you shit. Yeah, that's right. Tommy is shit. I said it. What you gonna do about it?

I love watching ufc live but hate watching replays

Is this just me? I literally need to try so hard to get through a video of a ufc fight even if I don't know the outcome but watching it live is the most exciting thing ever. I don't sports bet or anything. Why is this?

Am I the only person who just really doesn't care about lightweight in the ufc?

I feel like it's the most overhyped division by far in the ufc and although it's got some of the biggest characters and moments I just really can't find a way to care about it.

To start off with Justin Gaethje as champion of course he is a very entertaining and the fight with Ilia was great but overall he's one of those champions I find it very he to believe in as I think by no means is he the best in the division right now.

Then we have Ilia Topuria who is definitely the fighter I'm most excited about in the division as I'm excited to see who he fights next but generally speaking I was more excited about him at featherweight and he's going to be gone a long time I expect so I'm not too excited about him either right now.

Then we have Arman Tsarukyen who if I'm being honest I absolutely despise I find his social media antics so annoying and he's so inactive I feel like he just spends all his time wrestling bums in RAF and begging for a title shot (and if I hate the division now holy moly will it suck if he's champ)

I'm going to lump Max Holloway and Charles Oliviera together when talking about this because generally speaking I feel the same about both which is they are fighters I have really loved in the past but if I'm being honest am quite bored by at this point since I think they are well past their prime and if I'm being honest just holding up the division a little bit.

After that we have like Paddy, Gamrot, BSD and Ruffy who I'll sort of join together as being honestly very enjoyable fighters who I'd actually like to see more of but are generally speaking below the standard of the top guys and I don't see that changing soon.

Basically if I were to summarise I'd say I think my main issue with the division is all the top contender spots are kind of taken up by people who have been there for ages and never fight holding the division up and below then are some very entertaining fighters but none of whom I actually see having any real shot at the title and who I feel will just keep fighting eachother. I guess I could say the division feels quite static at the moment?

I know this is a very unpopular opinion as it's often cited as the best division in the ufc and although I bought into that for a while the more I think about it the less I find myself feeling really properly excited about in the division.

I also think part of the problem with this is the BMF title which I think is a really dumb idea that reduces focus in the lightweight division. Instead of Charles vs Max being something interesting like a fight for number 1 contender which could set up a rematch between either max or Charles with ilia and would be genuinely exciting instead it's over some dumb marketing gimmick belt. If Charles and Arman fight for it like they're rumoured so you get the same issue again with us wasting these fighters on a dumb side belt instead of having them fight for any meaningful progression within the lightweight division.

This is just something I've been thinking about for a while. If any of you can make a case for the division please do because I really do want to love it as much as everyone else seems to but it just really feels quite boring to me and it's the single division I find it the hardest to get excited about (yes, worse than the two heavyweights)

Hot take: resume is nowhere near as important as how good you are

The premise is pretty simple everyone discusses whether resume is more important with a title defensive or more important but really I don't think these things matter as much as physically how good you are this is of course in relation to the goat debate now bear with me you need to understand the thing a mix more short is it as a fickle fickle sport no one is safe from anyone else and fundamentally resumes. Prove this let's say Gary beats Islam does that make Gary's win over Islam? Super impressive it depends if you beat Islam with a total domination make him look like a fool. This is significantly more impressive than if he was losing the whole fight and then clip him is the same reason why Leon Edwards is less impressive than Kamaru Usman. Really, I don't even care who wins the fight I care about who looks more impressive. I care about who is the better fighter in the Leon Edwards versus Usman fight despite Leon winning he obviously did not come out looking better he was a less impressive fighter even though he won it as simple as that. To determine who the goat is you should not be thinking who have they beat and who do they lose to? You should be thinking physically while fighting how good do they look? How skill do I look? How much damage do they seem to be doing how comfortable do they seem resume is all correlated but it does not matter nine times out of 10 if I fight will win there is still a 10% chance they lose you do enough fight and these add up they mean nothing. Winning is winning. Resume is only important if you know nothing most people discussed. Peoples résumé have not watched the majority of the fights. Think of a lot of Islam's wins people glaze his résumé but is it really that good? A lot of his fights were close fights on one hand, you could say he's the greatest of all time I say he's the luckiest of all time! I understand I will receive hate for us but I am above the hate and I know what is true and she will understand it winning does not matter all winning means is who got a bigger paycheck the greater fighter is deeper than that and I hope we can all agree. Thank you

Why the fuck isn't King Green ranked

Genuinely take a look at his resume. TAKE A FUCKING LOOK. 6 fight win streak. Defeated Tony Ferguson. Has fights against Islam Makhachev, Charles Oliviera, Dustin Poirier, Edson Barboza, Rafael Fiziev, Paddy Pimblett and Mauricio Ruffy. These are big names. These are big fucking names. He has maybe the most stacked resume in terms of big opposition out of anyone in the ufc. ANYONE. IN. THE. U. F. C. Watch has fight with black ass Terrance McNoDad and tell me he doesn't deserve to be ranked. WATCH THE FUCKING FIGHT MAN. Obviously not top 5 but 10-15 range is made for him. ITS FUCKING MADE FOR HIM!
