No more InDrive in Laos? Grab doesn’t work either. I took LOCA from the airport…are there alternatives?

Vietnam - Bachelor of Education

Do you need a Bachelor of Education to teach EFL (English as a Foreign Language) in Vietnam? I have a BEd and a TEFL certificate, so it doesn't really matter to me. I am just curious. I know Vietnam is cracking down on foreigners who lack legitimate credentials.

Legit Dentist

Can anyone recommend a legit and reasonably priced dentist in Bangkok? I'm looking to get my teeth cleaned and 4 minor fillings. I am on a limited budget. How much would it cost?

Job Hunt for Administrators

For those who are in administration (Head of School, Vice Head…). Do you find it harder to find a job in your role? Is it more competitive? How many applicants per advertised opening?

Honesty vs Bootlicking

During the interview, the school director asked, “Why did you choose our school?” (It is a third-tier international school located in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.)

My answer was that when I applied to international schools, the schools had to meet these three criteria:

“ 1. Schools must be located in Asia or Southeast Asia
2. Must be International Schools
3. English Speaking Schools

As to which schools will respond to my job applications, I have no control. “

I don’t think the director and the British HOD liked my answer, based on their facial expressions.

I COULD easily bull$h!ts and bootlick.

But I don’t like to sugarcoat answers… I already researched this school (poor reviews on ISR and this Reddit… verdicts were to avoid the school or use it as a stepping stone to a better school for new, inexperienced teachers).

How would you answer the question?

Rejections

After getting a rejection email, how does it feel? For me…hurt, self-doubt, and frustrated but the feeling last a day or two. But I also see it as a practice run for my next job interview.

What about you? How do you handle rejections?

Missed My Interview

I was told last week on Friday that my job interview will be for Monday morning. I checked for the invite link last on Saturday, Sunday and early Monday morning. I didn’t see the invite so naturally I thought I was ghosted. I checked again, I didn’t get the invite link 20 minutes BEFORE the interview, is this normal?

Dumb Down my Credentials?

Is it a good idea to dumb down my credentials? And is it illegal? Let’s say I have multiple master's degrees and a PhD. If I intentionally leave out my PhD to avoid appearing overqualified, will that come back to bite me?

Negotiating Salary and Contract

What are your strategies in negotiating your salary and contract? For example, the school offers you an unreasonable salary, and you want a 30% pay bump, or you prefer a one-year contract instead of a two-year contract? …without sounding greedy or offensive to the school.
