2016 Copa América: Marcos Rojo wins the ball cleanly, yet the referee issues a straight red card—there wasn't even any contact.

Vicente del Bosque: Well, it’s not about the jersey or anything like that just looking at them purely as players I think Messi is the best. I feel bad saying it because I don’t want to upset anyone, but I think Messi is that classic player—the kind we all knew in the neighborhood—who would dribble past everyone, who was the best of the lot, the one everyone would pass the ball to. Melo: From what I’ve seen, Messi is the best player in history—the number one I’ve ever seen play. Brazilians might say, "No, but what about Pelé?" Pelé... well, I never saw Pelé play. As for Zico—one of my idols—the first match of his I ever saw was the first time I went to the Maracanã; my father took me there to see Zico’s farewell match, his very last game. So, I can't really speak about Zico ]. Of course, there’s Ronaldo O Fenômeno, Cristiano Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Zidane, and Neymar, but for me, Messi is number one.

Maybe Bangladesh and China could enter the equation too that’s something I’ve been wondering about for a long time, especially after the World Cup with that whole hate campaign unironically labeling them "systemically racist," despite them arguably being the most ethnically diverse country in the Americas and highly tolerant of immigrants. The very countries making those accusations are often worse especially regarding Venezuelans but I’m getting off track: what is it that makes Argentina and Leo so beloved?
